My son wants to be a goaltender. Looking for recomendations on getting inexpensive used gear, he's a squirt and not sure if it's a phase or not.
Thank you goaltending Gods, I don't know how you do it. |

First before you shop size him properly. measure from the center of his ankle up to the center of his knee cap, double this number and you will be in the area of his size.
example- that number is 13- 26, or 27 pads are his size.
as far as brands go. look to RBK 6k pads and gloves rbk 8k and or intermediates. These made in china pads, have a good track record for holding up and will likely be in the least expensive category. he will need a goalie jock, chest and arm protector.
I would get a dangler to put his existing helmet and not invest in a mask.
I would not invest goalie pants either unless he is playing travel and even then wait to see how he does in existing pant. skates, assuming he is allready a strong skater he should be in goalie skates for the protection level. _________________

Great advice there all around. There is nothing to add there whatsoever. To the OP... listen to him. If he wants to try it there's a god chance that it won't be a phase. I coach Novice up here which as I recall is Squirt from US tourneys the team entered last season. The goalie last year wanted to be a 'tender and so did the one this year. What I'm trying to say in my non-professional opinion is that if he approached you... it's likely what he wants to be.
