I will say that he is one of the greatest, but that list is pretty long. When you consider how unique his style was and how it affected the rest of the game, I think that it is hard to dispute that he was one of the greatest. Plus that Buffalo team sucked and had no business being anywhere near where they were without him.

Not only did he carry the buffalo sabres in the 90s... but few realize, of all goalies with more than 100 career starts, he is 1st in save %. Brody is 10th, Roy 21st. That's crazy.

Alas, I still have to vote no. His career was too short to amass a lot of the totals the other guys put together... not for lack of trying... but the Colin Campbell wouldn't let the old man use a hover-round on the ice, so he had to retire.

I think for "greatest goalie of all time" you'd have to have consistency. I remember a lot of games where Hasek would play a beautiful game, and others where he'd play "good enough" which is sad. I understand you get run down or tired, but you shouldn't play if you're not going to always put your best game on the ice. Just me though.

these guys are goalie junkies though. they don't say "no" to a chance for ice time. i wouldn't be surprised if brodeur's parents took out a 3rd mortgage because they weren't sure Marty's head wouldn't explode if they said "no" to another team.

hasek played to the age of 43... NHL hockey. You don't do that unless you're addicted. and when you're addicted, you play no matter what. I bet you cant see it from the camera angles, but they have to tie the likes of Hasek, Brodeur and Roy to the bench when the backups start a game. Other wise they'd jump the wall and tell the backup to get off their rink.

Good point. I can accept that. Even still, being a goalie junkie you have to be smart enough to ask yourself if you can perform the benchmark that you've put out. Otherwise you have to know when to stay off the ice because you'll be more detrimental then helpful.

From a team point of view... yes. From a junkie's point of view... get the most shots, the most difficult shots, and get them wherever you can. Damn the rest. I tend to go with the junkie side of things. I always request to be put on the worst team in the league, because I know that's where I can get the most work.

I don't know if these guys put the win first, or they put their fix first; but i bet they're pretty close.

That's more than obvious. Sometimes the team doesn't put the team first. We all remember Hasek's first return from retirement when Detroit picked up CuJo and still had Osgood and Legace. Talk about a Cluster F**k. The sad part was, the only goalie that could keep them alive...was Legace. I thought that was the biggest joke I've ever seen in the NHL.

There's no denying that Hasek was a great goalie. But i hate that guy. He has the most irritating voice in the world. Everytime i watched an interview with him i wanted to punch him in the face thru the t.v

Plus he was a cry baby. How many times can you remember him getting bumped in the crease? Then all of a sudden it's a yard sale. His gloves go flying into the 3rd row and he lays there like he got shot. Brutal!

But, when he was focused he was one of the best

Ok. Here's a rhetorical question. Who on here considers Osgood one of the greatest of all time? I ask because he is one win behind Hasek for tenth all time and he has more stanley cups.

I don't consider either of them in the greatest conversation. Just thought it was an interesting tidbit

Rhetorical or not I'm sure that's going to provoke responses. I don't consider Osgood anywhere NEAR one of the best for the same reason. He's far too inconsistent. I was watching them lose to Calgary last night and it was funny because he's at like 3.38 GAA with a .885 SV% and he's got something like 38 wins and 6 losses while Kipper is like 2.24 GAA and .902 SV% with a few more losses. Just goes to show that if you're on one of the best teams in the league 12 years running you're guaranteed to put some big numbers up in the win and stanley cup columns.

Osgood won his cups with... one of the most over powering teams nearly every year for the last decade and a half? I don't know the answer, but how many of those cups were as a backup? I know the 2003 cup was as a backup, the Wings 97 cup was as a back up to Vernon... 98? I'm not sure about... he may have been the starter... but he's had arguably the best defensive fowards in the league nearly every season, and Nic Lidstrom should have the Norris Trophy renamed after him.

Maybe if Osgood had carried the Sabres team through the playoffs on his back you could make an argument... under-rated... maybe.. does he belong in the discussion with the greats, absolutely not.
