By now you all might know that Tim Thomas won the Vezina Trophy.
I think he truly deserves it! He played an outstanding season and led his team even in critical situations with calm and sovereignty.
Though his lunging and sprawling for a save might sometimes look frantic
What do you guys think? |

I don't understand why people wouldn't vote for him. And I never fully understand why fans wouldn't like a goalie for his style. Who cares if he flops, did the puck go in the net? No, so let's just leave it at that. Anyway Thomas definately deserved the Vezina Trophy. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/JustVeejProductions

I just found out because of this thread, and I say, yes definently. If it weren't for him, the Bruins wouldn't have made it as far as they did.
Finally, a year Brouder(sp?) doesn't win it. _________________

Sorry for not making my argument clear. I actually was not telling, that i don't like the style he plays and what it looks like. (see Hasek) what counts is the result. And i do like his style of play. You can really see the passion in it, which is awesome! |

Did he deserve it? Yes. He played amazing.
Yet I was really hoping to see Mason take it. Columbus wouldn't even had made the playoffs if not for him. |

I don't know about that, Mason was looking very shaky at some points in the season, maybe because it was the excessive workload, but I don't know. He's still a great goalie, but I find it funny that Backstrom isn't even mentioned here, the last three season's he's collectively had the highest save percentage of any goalie. I guess that's the bad side of playing for Minnesota, a very defensive team. We'll see how he does next year, when Lemaire won't be coaching. I'll be thinking they'll do good as long as Backstrom remains solid and the team scores more goals than two a game. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/JustVeejProductions

yes and no, he did play well this season. However I don't believe he will be great next season, this time t was just a fluke. _________________ Marc-Andre Fleury ROCKS!

Did he deserve it? Absolutely not. Under no circumstances was he "the best candidate" for it.
Did Mason (Steve) deserve it? Or even Chris Mason? Yes, those two are far better candidates. Tim Thomas had a GREAT team in front of him with Lucic and Chara and the rest. Mason did not. Either of them. Yes they both got swept first round but that's what happens when you make it on your goalies back alone. I definitely think the Vezina went to the wrong person IMO. |

See, now here's a point that even the moderators are going to disagree on. Did Thomas deserve to win the Vezina? Of course he did. 2.10 GAA and .933 SV% in 54 games. He actually faced 36 more shots in 6 less games then Mason and came out of it with a better GAA and SV%. No matter what you think of his style or the team he played on, Thomas played damn good this year. Besides that, watching him giving his speech really said a lot about the guy. He's down to earth and honest and has a sense of humor that a lot of professional athletes don't have. I honestly like the guy....in spite of the team he plays on. _________________

The only trophy great and true players care about is the Stanley cup. Disagree all you want, that’s how it would be with me and what I think. Did he deserve it? I don't know, I guess he did if he won it. But i bet that he would rather have had the Cup. _________________

-2, because after all who's going to want to win the cup now that Crosby has touched it? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/JustVeejProductions

I would... just because it would mean Crosby doesn't have it a 2nd year in a row |

You're telling me you wouldn't want to hoist the cup because a player you don't like touched it? Wow...no wonder you're a baseball player.
Anyways saves are great and all, and I agree he posted better numbers but even still, he had a better team. Were they 36 more quality shots or just stuff that was coming off the stick as he lunged Hasek style to poke it away? I think even if Boston had Budaj or even Threeorfour they would've made the playoffs, the same cannot be said under any circumstance about either St. Louis or Columbus. That's why I think one of the Mason's deserved it more.
And I agree the most and truly only important trophy in hockey is the Cup. The rest is secondary. |
