So...how long is it going to be before they reduce the height of our legpads now that they've taken the width out of the equation. I've heard several guys at the local pick up games complaining about it...but really, other than 5 hole closure, what does it hurt to have pads coming up to our waists? I ask this because I'm watching Philly crush the Rangers and Biron has these massive Velos on. So what do you guys think? Will they change the NHL regs for HEIGHT of pads? Why will they or won't they?

That's what I'm thinking too, because even with all that pad extending up, it only effects on ice 5 hole shots. It's not as influential as having wider legpads or larger blockers. But, just like they took out the overdrive blade from the NHL because it provided an "unfair advantage to goalies who chose to use it" I'm sure they'll make them stop mid-thigh for legpads too. Stupid NHL committee.

Tell me about it Rolling Eyes. If they made the nets bigger instead of the pads smaller then i would be pissed as hell.

I guess +2 would be the highest extra length that should be allowed. But no limit on the original height that you need for protection. When you get into +3 or +4 you can take up a lot of extra net on the bottom.

But I hope to see the NHL changing other things instead of the goalie pads. Such as one of their later ideas which was changing the shape of the posts so when a shot hits the post, it will deflect in, instead of out.

And this still wouldn't be the answer, making it easier to score. Fans want to see end to end action and scoring chances for both teams. They need to find a way to change the dimensions of the ice surface or something to give both teams more room to work and get chances. The most boring games are when the puck is in the neutral zone the entire time.

I personally think there's no way to dramatically affect the end to end play of the game without getting new blood. Right now we see a lot of "smart" players who sit there and think the plays out...it needs more players that are willing to just thrash and flail and do whatever they can to move the puck end to end. Even though this obviously would reduce the intelligence of the game, it'd give the fans what they want...and hey...after all, isn't it all about money?

By the way, this is a poll question for anyone who cares to participate in that part as well.

As for the +3/4/5 that I've seen...all the way up to a 32"+6" (on GSBB) It does take away some bottom side, but your legs are still only going to close so much...you can't extend way up top on the thigh board and still play a proper style without killing yourself so I don't think their should be any regulation to height. I think that's one of the things that we can balance out on our own without their interference.

Ever seen Patrick Lalime's pads? He has like a +5 thigh rise.

Yeah but I have a hard time imagining we'll ever see a breach of +7 or higher. That'd just be too bulky for us without offering as much advantage as it does disadvantage.

I couldent even imagine a +7 thigh rise. I only wear a +1 thigh rise which hurts me somewhat cause then i give up some bad 5 hole goals.

You can't force players to play like that, so that isn't a solution.

I think the ice should become wider so players have more chances to make plays

I realize that. I was being sarcastic because they're trying all this crap to change the games so the fans like it more. I understand we need a following to continue this sport but there's a point. And for the league to change one thing to create more fan base but to change another thing most undecided fans enjoy is extremely contradictory. I say let them play the way they are. We've all watched the olympics and seen the NHL pros out their on your suggested rinks...and the scores usually don't vary much...nor does the play of the game. Leave it alone. Quit sticking fingers where they don't belong if you ask me.

Yeah no doubt....any team that gets scored on with the 2 man advantage should NOT be considered the "Game of the week"
