does anybody else agree with me? he makes decent saves and he is a decent goalie IMO but im honestly sick of people bragging how "amazing" he is. hes not a king of anything except gettin burnt upstairs. he has a very good team to work withand i feel he is overrated. there are other goalies that need to make great saves every night and they deserve the numbers lundqvist has

This season he's made an average of 26.5 saves on an average of 29 shots per game. Goals against is 2.49 and SV% of .914. Over his career he has a GAA of 2.30 and SV% of .916.
Basically, he's not the best goalie in the league, but he's sure as hell not overrated......IMO

yeah i don't think he's really overrated... it's his style that's more of the problem, especially on shots from the perimeter where he's playing way too deep. i was watching the game last night and was dying when he was in the middle of the crease when there was a lone shooter almost at the blue line... he could've at least came to the top of the crease for that one.

no actually it's for the same reason FS sticks up for Raycroft when I go on about how crappy the guy is... no matter how shitty they might be compared to other NHL goalies, they're still way above our level.

i'm not busting on his credentials because i think he's a tremendously talented goaltender and in fact he's probably my favorite to watch because of his reflexes. but it's hard to understand the mechanics of such a style because it's so unconventional. i watch a lot of rangers games and am a huge fan but it just boggles my mind how he gets a pad on so many different shots while playing consistently on the post and so deep off the point. i mean from the top of the face off circle he still has his foot probably less than a foot off the near post and just squares up from there. but overrated can't be the word for it because of his credentials not only in the nhl but in international play. plus he even won a gold medal playing inline... i mean seriously... how crazy is that? gold medals for ice and inline international play... hardcore.

ok so maybe overrated isnt the word but i feel that everyone makes him sound a lot better than he is. at least thats what ranger fans around here do. hes a good goalie but its a little much when people go holy crap amazing save when it was a shot to the chest. dont know the word but people seem to worship everything he does around here. especially the announcers.

He's one of the best in the world right now, and he's in the best years he has left. He's young, talented, above average, probably an all star, and the Rangers go to goalie for quite a while.

There are a couple others I would say to be overrated before Lundqvist

His style is not a problem, you have to understand his style completely to understand why he does what he does. As to the part where he was in the middle of his crease and the shooter was at the blue line, the farther away from the shooter you are, the more time you have to react to the shot.

If anything he is UNDER-RATED. His leg strength is impeccable and his stance is unreal.

Consider the New York Rangers pre-Lundqvist, then after the lockout the team isn't much different besides him and they are suddenly a legitimate team. Coincidence? I think (know) not!

Also keep in mind the "no-name defense" everyone always worried about, other than Redden (who's abilities I question), it seems to all have been forgotten about now that there's Lundqvist.

When you consider they put the same kind of money into Drury and Gomez that the Pens do into Malkin and Crosby (who score double the points NYR's duo does) it's obvious he carries the team.

He's an overachiever on a team of under-achievers, and if anything it shows.

If he's the king of anything it's making s*** look like gold, so long live King Henrik!

By the way I bet you they are high on him down in New York but IMO he is possibly the TOP goalie in the world right now. You're right about some minor inconsistencies but other than that he's amazing. Don't hate on him because of some silly Yanks.

so all those things about cutting down angles are not relevant because we're actually hurting ourselves by being closer to the shooter? there's no backdoor option if there's only a shooter on the blue line so there's no reason why he wouldn't be challenging the shooter. not to mention if that's the case then why do we play away from the goal line at all? i would probably say that he just didn't get a step on getting out of the crease, not that he needed more time for reaction.
