Mind you, I've never tried a weird mask, but I have to wonder, why do these 3 goalies always wear such weird masks? Osgood looks like he wears a player helmet with a cage, Thomas looks like he has bug deflectors...which I suppose could be useful.

However if there was really an advantage it wouldn't be 3 people wearing them...

Not everything needs to have an obvious advantage. Sometimes just feeling right is a great advantage for that player to focus on his game.

In the interviews with Hasek and Osgood a long time ago they were asked why they wore that style of mask.

They both responded by saying they thought that the traditional masks limited their vision both side to side and when the puck was down along the ice or caught up in their pads.

You could always test this for your own preference by borrowing a player helmet during a practice and having the guys take light wristers to the low corners of the net or jab at loose pucks around the crease. If you like it, maybe check into it further.

Maybe he means the air expelled from our lungs, which contains CO2 and isn't as rich in oxygen as needed. Ever noticed that after pulling the covers over your head breathing becomes harder after a few minutes? That's 'cause the CO2 level inside the confined space is getting high and the body isn't getting enough oxygen.
