I've had three sets of pads with plastic snaps that broke a lot. So far, with the snaps that Pete uses, I haven't had one problem. I've had slapshots deflect off the snaps and that didn't even break them. These are definitely a top of the line quick snap system.
As for adjusting them, I got them adjusted to exactly where I like them after a few games and haven't touched them since. They haven't loosened any like some of the other "plastic" buckles I've used. They just work great.

I hate the plastic snaps, other than getting dressed in 5 minutes, they really piss me off.

They break, they're hard to adjust, and you never have a clue what to do with the slack they let out.

I used to always get the plastic snaps, until i got my reflex pads, all leather, and all good. Don;'t think i want to go back to the snaps.

I've got plastic snaps on my RBKs, and I don't have any issues with them. Same as Cman, only took me a few practices to get them where I like them and haven't touched them since.

In regards to the excess slack - I just tie them to the strap above it.

i also have plastic snaps and have yet to have a problem. the leather is nice because its more reliable i suppose but its such a pain and its not as consistent

as for the slack i just cut it off once i get em' where i like. i just leave like 2 1/2 inches hanging off and it dosnt bother me

Leather straps that aren't cared for can stretch and warp. Maybe this is what he means.

Nylon does it as well, just not to the degree that leather straps do.
