It was finally time for new skates. The tuuk on my old Bauer 3000's was broken, the tongue was split on both skates, and let's face it, they were 15 years old. About the only thing great about those skates was that they fit so perfect and comfortable that I was spoiled! Sad

So I ordered a new pair of One75's. I never actually wore them on the ice, so my opinion is limited to my living room wear and tear. They were ultra stiff, it took quite a bit of muscle to finally get the skates nice a snug, and once I had them on and stood up I was stuck. Every time I tried to put my knee forward and bend at the ankle (similar to anyone's goalie crouch) the tongue of the skate and the something else would refuse to flex and dug into my shin so bad that I had bruises. It was unbelievable. I took them off, put them back in the box and gave them a couple days to reconsider hurting me. Laughing I tried them on at least 4 more times on separate days and nothing I could do with them would stop the pain and discomfort at the bottom of my shin everytime I would lean forward.

They got sent back. I don't know what the deal was, I'm not sure if others have experienced this or if I'm just a freak and these skates won't work for me.

Instead I went ahead and got the Rbk 5k with the little pump thingy. Night and day. These skates felt great from day one. I had no problem flexing forward, no pain or discomfort, and the skate boot was flexible enough that I could get them reasonably tight right away. A huge help in that is the little lock they have for the laces halfway up. That way I can get the laces on top of my foot cranked down and they stay that way while I readjust my hands to work on the upper half of the laces. The pump system seems nice. It takes my about 489 pumps (well, maybe not quite that many) until I can feel it around my ankle, but that's apparently because I have skinny feet. I thought the pump system was just a bell and whistle and didn't really do anything at first, but everytime I get off the ice and let the air out I can feel a huge difference in how snug and perfect the skates fit.

I will admit I have had a couple minor blisters while breaking these in, but that's partly because I skate barefoot and don't wear socks. These were caused by the edge of the material and the stitching on the back of the tongue where it rubs against my ankle alightly above the big round ankle bone. After wearing these for the past two months (I play twice/week with them) they feel completely broken in and I expect nothing but greatness from them.

I'll try and post some pictures when I have the time to show some details on what I like about these and where I got the blisters from.

edited to add pictures:

And below is my ugly finger pointing at the stitching and material edge that had given me a few blisters. Now that it's softening up it's fine.

RBK skates rule! CCMs do too! Ha, glad to hear you like them. I have 9Ks and I've been more than pleased with them.

Yeah, my 5k's rock. Absolutely no discomfort around the ankle with great support.

I've had the 5k for about a month now and I like them but, they seem to be taking a long time to get completely broken in. Maybe it's just me.

How often or how many times have you skated in them?

I skate in mine usually 3 times/week so that may have affected my break-in time.

I've used them about 6 - 8 times now.
