Old pads are Mission helium elites. 32".
New pads are 31".

They are from hockey world. As I said 31"s. So that is the last size in the INT group, so I got very lucky.
Well I didn't get lucky, I had a price range, and to find such a quality pad, at this rate....
I had to get them.
Also, I don't like the new style pads. Call me old-school.

Inter 31" and down
Price 479.99
SALE $229.99

Sr 32" and up
Price 989.99
SALE $449.99

Basically did I get the same pads as a 32" SR, that was originally full list at 989.00 (nobody pays list, but still)....
the same pad, but 1" shorter for 229.99?

http://www.hockeyworld.com/prodHome.ihtml?pid=2821&catID=30&shop=3&qs=?stepx3-sizex31%20-colorxall%20-shopx3

I found that my knees were getting sore b/c the old pads were way too long on me.
I'm 5'7 - 5'8 in sneakers.
I just don't understand how guys who are 5'8 and 5'9 are wearing 33,34" pads.

Anyhow. The Missions were so much bigger, that these little heatons look tiny to me now.
I measured everything out.... now, that I have both pads here.
Missions measure to 32.5" + thigh board.
Heatons measure to 29". + 2" thigh board.
This really sucks b/c as it plays out, the missions run huge.
And the Heatons run small.

What is the result. These 31"s are so amazingly lightweight. I will weigh them tomorrow.
They look and feel smaller obviously.
But, MY KNEES ARE IN THE KNEE-CUP AREA. Isn't that the most important part?
Seriously. why measure 2/3 from knee-desired height for that final/3rd figure.
Why not ONLY measure from ground to knee cap. And have pads made to that spec, PLUS the extra padding up top.
The knee cup has a sweet spot of 2". Doesn't everyone want their knee to be in there?
My measurements told me that a 31 or 32" would work.
But my knee was ON the bottom seam for the knee cup with a 32".
My knee is perfect in this Heaton 31", but they run small.
I guess that's why custom pads are not cheap.

My floor to center of knee cap is 18". So pad sizes should be 18". And then have 18s plus xyz whatever.
Am I nuts, prolly.

It's definetly not a good idea to purchase hockey equipment on the web, without trying it on prior, that is the moral of the story:)

I love having two skate straps. that will be a huge improvement for me.
Rotation is 100x better.
Obviously I haven't used them yet, but here are some pics for ya....

Every pad manufacturer seems to have a different way of measuring. I've had 33" and 34" pads that were perfect and I've had the same sizes from different manufacturers that were too big or too small. Because of the discrepency in sizing, people like me who are 5'9" can wear 33 and 34" pads that actually fit. That's another reason to add to your reasons not to buy on the web without trying on list.

How can you tell the rotation is 100x better without actually using them yet? I know you're probably tried them on at home and did a few carpet flies, but any pad will rotate great on the floor at home. Let us know how it goes on the ice.

Very nice looking pads, BTW. Looks like they've got a lot of protection and the leg channel and knee lock and lifts look great.

LOL. cool. I will. I've skated around my companies warehouse in pants/pads/rollers. and did some exercises. and they rotate. the missions didn't seem to rotate much.

hey re: the padding. I agree with you. but I wonder why companies, at least the ACTUAL PAD COMPANY, why they don't put really good pics on their sites. I understand that may not be the vendor's job. although it would benefit them. but the manufacturer should get multiple pics and quality too.

Exactly. They should also have a database for each pad manufacturer and model giving the exact sizing as compared to the ATK. That would make ordering online so much easier.

Definitely not. I have it right in the center of the knee cradle.

it's clear these 31"s I have from heaton run small.
the old mission elite helium 32"s I had ran tall.

anyone know how the tps r4 compare in size?
