Just a note, mods, not that it means anything, but Bauer bought out Mission/Itech, but they will continue with the Itech line, and dis-continue the Mission line. So, yeah...

The guy that runs the goalie pro shop in Maine just recently visited Itech, and when we went up there, he told us.

Bauer discontinued all the player protective gear, otehr then masks, so they could sell more Bauer gear.

But goalie stuffs the same.

Thats Itech was in so much comotion and stuff at the time I was getting new pads, Bauer bought them over, and pretty much fired half the reps.

they are not discontinuing the mission line
they are keeping it for ball/roller hockey gear

and its a good time to buy, they are clearing the whole warehouse (3 M $ worth of inventory)

I got myself some nice pads, I'll post a picture and review soon

There are some shots of some pro goalies in Nike/Bauer branded Itech gear.

Valiquette (NYR) and Biron (PHI). Biron is wearing the glove only.

I didn't think they would discontinue the Mission line. It is huge in roller hockey.

Okay, I just got these knee pads on Thursday and have played a couple games with them. I'm coming from the completely foam TPS knee pads, but had to switch after taking a deflection off the top of the knee. Slap pass from one side of the net to the other that got deflected in front, between the pads(no chance to close the five hole. I was spread a little because the pass was going to another player and I was sliding across), and onto the top of the knee. Those knee pads hit the garbage can in the locker room pretty quick and I bought the new ones the next day.
I don't have a picture, so I got a link to one on goaliemonkey.

http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-90879101131287_2044_24357673

I went with this type of knee pad because I wanted as much protection on the top of the knee and thigh area as I could because I don't wear thigh boards or wraps, but I also don't like swelling and bruises.
Anyway, the first thing I did was remove one of the knee stacks on my Smith pads because these knee pads are much wider then the previous ones I wore. I also had to loosen up the strap that goes through the knee stacks and around the back of the knee. Once that was done, I hit the ice.
The knee pads felt a little bulky during the stretching and at the start of the warm up, but, after a couple minutes I wasn't noticing them much. I did notice that I had no problems/head issues with dropping to the ice like I did the last game before I got these knee pads(right after the bruising). The first few shots, I just dropped straight down on my knees and let a couple shots hit the knee pads....just to test the protection out. Perfect so far.
After that I went into the normal warmup. Shots from the blue line and moving in every few shots, then onto the game. Lots of shots in this game since I had very little defense, so plenty of tests for how the knee pads work with my Smiths. I didn't notice any problems with rotation, which is a good thing. After the first few minutes of the game I didn't really notice they were there, which is funny considering how bulky they are.
About half way through the game I noticed the first and only problem I've had with them. The damn plastic over the kneecaps. The rest of the knee pads are comfortable, but this plastic piece shifted a little and started driving into my leg just below the knee. I tried shifting it around, but it still caused discomfort and some bruising an inch or so below the kneecap. Not so good when you're a butterfly goalie and you like to drive hard into the butterfly.
Throughout the game I didn't have to adjust the thigh protection part of the knee pads. They actually stayed in place pretty well. This could be due to the fact that I always put my Underarmour stretch pants on over the top of any knee pad I wear.

So, for the rating. 10/10 on protection. I let a couple players with good, hard shots take a few off the top of them with no bruising or soreness afterward.

Quality: It's hard to tell. I've only had them for a week. They'll probably last awhile though as they look to be put together pretty good.

The only problem I had with them was the plastic driving into my knee. Since it was on the area of the knee that the puck never really gets to, I removed the plastic part and tried them out again. They worked much better the second time around.....without the plastic.

Thanks. It's been so long since I reviewed anything that post took me 30 minutes to write. Of course, I am at work so I had to do it while no one was looking. Laughing

I have RX-9 pro pants. They were really rough to break in, but when I finally did, they are phenomenal pants.
