I am looking to buy my first set of goalie pads and since I am a newbie, I don't want to shell out a pile of cash for a brand new set. Which used pad should I buy as I found them for the same price and both in great condition: the Bauer Vapor XXXs or the Simmons Ultra Light 2s???? (This might be a know brainer for most of you guys).

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Assuming you get the correct size, I would go with the Simmons pads. I'm pretty sure the Bauer X/XX/XXX line was made in China or Thailand, as opposed to the Simmons pads, which were made in Canada. They'll probably last longer.

Thank you for the feedback.

Returning2MyNet: That is a good question. They would just be for beer league so I had assumed they wouldn't care too much. Is that generally true?

Butters McFly: Canadian made sounds pretty good to me. I am having troubles finding a picture of the knee channels. Are the Simmons UL2 fairly protective when you go down into the butterfly?

Thanks again!!!

The UL2, a "clone" Wink of the Vaughn Velocity, is designed for butterfly play, so I'm sure the landing gear (knee wing, knee stacks, etc.) provides ample protection as well.

Hey guys,
Sorry to beat this to death, but since this is a big purchase for me and I plan on using these pads for a few years I want to get it right. I found some Itech 7.8 Vamp pads for the same price as the Simmons. Are the Vamps decent? I know they are made in China, but I've read that they are an pretty good pads. I'd really like to know what your thoughts are on Itech 7.8 Vamps VS the UL2s. Thanks again for the valuable insight.

I recently bought a pair of the Vamp 7.8s, but I haven't even seen them yet, much less used them (they're on another continent). I can only go by what I've heard and my own impressions, but I have a feeling the UL2s might be a more beginner-friendly pad, especially if you're going to be using the butterfly a lot.

I've owned two Velocity clones (not the ULs, though), and they're quite comfortable and more or less foolproof, once you get the strapping set up the way you like it.
