There are way to many questions that follow your initial question. For starters...

Do you want new or used?
Do you care what brand?
Do you want/need Sr. pads or Pro level pads?

If you are still looking I second the Perani's suggestion. They have TPS Summit Pros and R8's on clearance for $499.99 shipped!

for 749 you can gobble up some Simmons 994's, the smiths are great option as well
if a SR pad is your think go RBK....and dont be shy to look over the used pads, if your big enough the woods listed on this post are sweet.

994's are $749 before tax.. so he's going to be looking way over $600, closer to $1000.

You're totally right about looking at used pads. I got my first used 12.8 xwings for $500, and it was a great deal. Then I found a brand new set in better colours for the same price $500. Patience is the key.
