Hey guys,
I've been doing some brain storming on how I can slide faster on the ice while in the butterfly. I have begun to do some experiments on my 2nd set of pads while playing in some pick up games. So far I have used two different things and have seemed to work alright. One was a silicon based product used on dress shoes to shed rain water the other, which seems strange but has worked very well, is swiffer dust and shine spray. Perhaps someone can spread some light on the matter? _________________ b.west |

I've got to agree with mx on this one. Leg strength is key to a quick slide....however, there are other things to take into consideration. What is the material on the inside of your pads made of? My last set of pads had a nylon material on the inside edge. This made it very hard to slide....although it did build my leg muscles up pretty good. My current Smith pads have the synthetic leather on the inside edge. This material greatly increased the length and speed of my slides. The first game I played in them I slid all the was out of the crease a few times because of the lower friction. It actually took awhile to learn how to control them. Now they're great.
You may want to take a look at your pad material. If they are made of a high friction material on the insides, try adding a piece of synthetic leather to the insides.
Sprays can work great on some materials but we really don't know what the effects will be in the long run. The waterproofing material should be good though, as long as it's applied correctly. _________________
