| Anybody else run into this problem? My new RBK X Pulse Pro 35+1 do not slide very well when doing butterfly pushes. My older Vaughn velocity never had this problem. Is there anything I can apply to the pads to make them slide better? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks |

| I've used Dakota Duracare Dubbin from Marks on the inside of the pads. It's a waterproofing paste used for hunting/ work boots. |

Can you tell why it's not sliding very well? i'm guessing it's the material, but what kind of stuff do you have on the inside of the pad? _________________ Pads-Simmons 993. (995's are on the way)

| Had the problem when making the switch from my RBKs to my Vaughns, but it's getting better. Still a little hard, but I think I just need to get a better push off is all. |

You put something on the bottom of the pad to make it slide better?
I was thinking about doing this for roller, but was afraid it would come off the pad and make the crease slippery _________________ A goalie must have one overriding quality, he must want to be a goalie |

some goalie did that one game i played. was some oily crap. felt like i was skating on ice... only with roller skates. i made the refs clean it up and shit but even after i was still slipping.
so i beg of you, please dont put anything except slide plates on your pads. |

It's not uncommon to notice "difficulty" in one form or another when switching to a new pair of pads or any equipment for that matter. Most of it, I assure you, is in your head. The reasoning is that you become so used to a piece of gear that when you wear something new it changes the game completely for you.
That's why you don't see Pro Goalers going out in a game in all brand new equipment that hasn't been worn for at least a few practices. Give it some time to see whether or not it's seriously an issue or something in your mind. |

the x pulse is made out of a certain material (not sure what it is) which is really bad for sliding, as it grips the ice instead of gliding across. But it might just be that you havent broken them in enough. Your entire sliding technique could be compromised because of a poorly broken-in pad. _________________ Hockey players remember every tear that ever dropped from their cheek, every bead of sweat that flowed down their face, every drop of blood that stained the ice red. I don't know how you went from Vaughn to RBK. |

Please make sure you're reading the post properly before responding.
And I didn't mind the RBKs that much, they were cheap and slid quite well. Didn't like them because they seemed very stiff and they were too wide (12"). |

I know this is a bit late, haha...been busy.
I had the same problem with my Itechs 7.8 Prodigys. It felt like the side pads were sticking to the ice. My solution: kneel on the ice, and push back and forth until you build up a layer of snow on them. This make its much easier to slide...for me anyway.
Let me know if it helps. |

Ive been a goaltender of ballhockey for a year now,and Ive bought pad covers from brians that are specially designed for it,and are of custom sizes.try that,it will help HIgh quality too.they go for about 150$cdn.
also,if you are on the cheap side, try buying hockey socks, cutting them in half and cutting holes trough for straps,I used that for awhile and it worked well, but it didnt protect as mush.
ANother thing you can do Is apply a THIN coat of armor-all on your flaps.
It will help protect the leather and youll slide a little better.
email me for more info |

I have been experimenting on my 2nd pair of pads for different solutions for quite sometime now. At this point the two products that I found worked the best were a silicon based dress shoe spray properly used to shed of rain water the other, little stranger but for an even better gloss and slide I used "swiffer dust and shine spray". I haven't used either in my ball hockey games as I normally play on clay tennis court like surfaces so there isn't a whole lot of sliding to be had anyways but using it on the ice hasn't seemed to produce any unwanted residue. Try it see what happens good luck. _________________ b.west |
