So, I went back a couple of pages to find a thread on this, and couldn't, so I do apologize if I overlooked it. I have used thigh boards pretty much exclusively. I would like to try and get rid of them, and go with some knee pads.

What kind of knee pads have you all tried? I'm looking for something that isn't bulky, or annoying. Thanks!

Knee pads I have not used. I like my pads to be as open and loose as possible so the thought of having strapped that tight to that much of my leg drives me nuts.

I have used thigh boards on my more recent pads but before that used thigh wraps which I liked a lot. Everyone thinks the wraps leave you open to injury for whatever reason, Ive taken a bunch of shots off my knee/thigh when I wore them with no problem.

The two best wraps out there in terms of protection and function are the Vaughn VKP7500 ($65), and the Simmons Thigh Wrap ($59, dont know if that includes shipping or not).

Im still in thigh boards because my league doesnt care and I dont have the cabbage to replace functional gear right now; otherwise I would be in one of the above.

I use Brown knee pads. They are the only ones I have ever used so I cant compare them to anything but I highly recommend them.

Thanks guys. I don't know, now, I really broke in my thigh boards, and they are actually pretty comfortable. I'm lost, and confused.

You might be on to something there. I played volleyball, and I do remember how comfortable they were... Good call.

I use Itech thigh wraps - the only model I've tried. In the last month I've taken two smoking shots off them, the second left a sizable bruise.
Be sure your volleyball pads have some density to them, the ones I remember would have left me with a nasty injury...

I hear ya. Kinda like when I took a puck right off of the elbow, where the plastic elbow cup is? Still chipped my elbow.

Honestly, I used to not wear any knee protection, so something is better than nothing I guess.
