Hello everyone. I am new to the board and am looking to buy some new gear for my son. I have pretty much narrowed it down to either Itech RX5 or NikeBauer Supreme one55. I know that both of these are low budget entry levels, but I am buying them for my 9 year old son who will probably only get one season out of them before outgrowing them. I am looking at getting pads, glove and blocker so that everything matches.

I would like to hear opinions on both of these, as well as any differences, from people that have used them.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I like the design on the ONE55 better. The ITECH ones look sorta funny to me.

the one 55 will hold up better, the stitched graphic on the slider of the Itech has been to have issues.

Thank you for the responses, and for the links to the reviews.

It seems that the durability of the RX5s seems to be common in everything I've seen. However, I can't imagine that a 9 year old will be as hard on pads as adults Laughing

I am sure that I am over analyzing this, but I've never bought goalie equipment before. I realize that any differences probably won't matter to my son since he is young and still learning. He doesn't know anything about what makes a good pad, he just wants them to look cool (which I do admit that the one55s do look better.

my daughter is 8 and played one season of travel BOYS hockey as the only goalie on the team. 3 pratices a week and games and tournements. She wore tps Xceeds. They are well worn but will last another season. A boy on the travel team one year above started the season in rx5's. The season started for travel in the end of July. In feb he needed new pads, the graphics stiching had worn and was falling off, the rest of the pad was doing well but that key area was toast. His parents bought him the Vaughns.
The differences are there and any age wear is wear.

Returning2MyNet, thanks for that information. That is pretty much the same schedule my son will be playing. Guess I definately will be leaning towards the one55s.

Thanks again.

Well, I was at my local sport store looking for my own new pads. I was thinking of getting the ONE55 or 75's. I realized if i am getting anything, it's definantly the ONE 75s. On the ONE 55's the leather design is actually stitched on while on the ONE 75's they are not, but still have stitching their just for show. This would probably make the pad last longer and usually, or at least were i live, range around the same price.($350-$400). They are also flexible for good mobility while in/not in butterfly and still have the right amount of stiffness to make mobility easier in the butterfly. AKA their in between RBK stiff and Velocity bendy-ness (not sure what word it is)

BTW: I think the NIKE BAUER's look better as well. This is only my opinion on them, i really have not seen anything on the ITECH's. I'm really not looking at them because they did not catch my eye per say...

Goalie_94, thanks for the insight. I think at this point I ahve pretty much decided to get the one55s. It seems like the more I research the more I see pople talking about durability issiues with the Itechs. And I agree, the one55s do look better.

I am sure that the one75s are better, however the prices that I can find have the one75s about $120-$150 higher and I am a bit relluctant to spend that much right now. When my son is older and more developed (and the pads will last more than a season) I will look at spending more. Very Happy

Thanks again to everyone for the help and information.

no problem. I'm getting the ONE75's because the place i go to sells them for the same price as the ONE55's. I don't know why, but hey, for $350 you can't beet it.
