OH GOLLY GEE! A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A "MINOR INJURY" THAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU FIGHT!!! Wow, I bet all the girls must have been flocking to his bloody body after that. Nothing screams sexy to me like a bloody, ugly and now fucked up face. Yupp, orchidvandever, I definitely see your point now.
Thank you R2MN and Fullright for having common sense. |

like i said before, if there is a fight that escalates to the point where the other guy wants to go, do it or else everyone else on your team is gona call you a pussy behind your back. and besides, its not like you team is gonna be fucked if you get in a fight, the other goalie would just come in and replace you. if you do fight, your going to be praised by the rest of your team. i'd rather have that. |
So what, let them call me a "pussy" behind my back. It must be an age thing. Don't get me wrong, I used to fight A LOT off the ice back in High School. I'm not afraid of a confrontation by any means. I could've fought people on the ice as well. What would that have proven? Sweet, so I beat up the other goalie. To pump up my team for one game, and to not be called a pussy. If you are getting challenged by someone to fight you, and don't, you make the guy look foolish. That speaks volumes over beating him up. Obviously, if someone is taking swings at you, that's another story, but other than that, there is no reason for a goalie to fight. _________________ 6'1" 185 lbs.

Who remembers Avery's douchebag "errant swing" that hit Varlamov square in the jaw last year in the playoffs? Did Varly respond? Nope...he stood there and cleaned his crease. IMO that was 100x more effective for pumping the Caps up then it was for helping the Rangers. Watching someone brush off a douche attack like that did far more then the douche attack itself.
Enforcers have their very very small niche in the game. At the end of the day, the bigger man is usually the one that does more for their team...for instance, not costing them the series by leading PIM.
And, if you can't fight, don't. If you get knocked out in two punches i.e.-Oli Jokinen then you actually reverse the momentum against yourself.
I don't know about other leagues but the league I'm in is a 1-5 game suspension for fighting and removal from the current game. Doesn't sound like much help. I'd rather prove my point by stopping pucks. |

In my humble opinion, fighting is part of the game, as long as it's for good reason (for example, Matt Cooke slew-footing Kovalchuk the other night. Kovi had every right to drop the mitts).
As for playing goalie, I like to let my defenceman handle the fighting aspect. In my league anyway, goalies receive penalties and suspensions for even leaving their crease during an altercation. Add to that the Fighting penalty and suspension, possible intent to injure infractions (thsoe blockers hurt, y'know), etc.
That being said, I do know where this guy is coming from. He's in Midget AA. Most kids are fine, but SOME kids, angry that they couldn't make AAA, or feel they have to show off, whatever, choose to fight. I have seen this in person, kids fighting for fighting's sake. Therefore, the kid who started this thread, in my opinion, has a legitimate concern, and there is no need to take his head off for it.
My advice would be to ignore the other goalie's challenge. If he does rush you though, defend yourself, because you just never know if a blow will strike you in exactly the wrong area (Todd Bertuzzi on Steve Moore, for example. NOT incinuating that Moore could defend himself, just saying that it was a one in a million shot, IMO). There is certainly no need to be the agressor though, and it is also never wise to provoke a psychotic goalie. |

Bertuzzis punch wasnt what injured moore, it was him falling to the ice and all his teammates trampling him... _________________ Hockey players remember every tear that ever dropped from their cheek, every bead of sweat that flowed down their face, every drop of blood that stained the ice red. | Mind you if he doesn't throw the punch, Moore doesn't fall and everybody else doesn't collapse on top and break his neck... |

be solid on your skates, rule one. if you don't have your feet under you he'll rag doll you, balance is key. second keep your mask on, third get close try to get his swinging arm under yours and hang onto the other arm with the same arm then grab sweater high tie him up. no sense in swinging away and hurting your hands. just hang on for all your worth.
I agree with the general opinion in avoiding the fight in the first place but if it comes right down to it protect yourself, no one ever wins a fight. _________________
