I lalways stretch for 2-3 minutes before I do anything on the ice. Once I can comfortably get into the splits I'll move the crease. The guys know not to shoot a puck untill I finish my skating drills. I like to start a game with an X drill using a glide push, T push to a C stop, butterfly slide, and back side edge back to the post and finishing in a dead angle. I'll do that usually 3 times each way. Then I just work on a long high push from the post and a momentum build back to a butterfly slide with a tall recovery at the post. _________________ It's all about foot speed.

I basically take a few shots and just chill out untill the game starts. I do all my stretching before warm-ups and I take like 4-6 shots and thats it for me. Of course our warm ups are like 7 minutes so there is not much time anything else _________________ Atlanta Thrashers SouthEast Division Champs! |

I have been starting at home lately...being old it me a bit to get ready and ive found a routine that seems to help me.
if i have a game at 6pm Ill start my routine at about 3pm....yep wife hates hockey days...lol.
ill eat some chicken and eggs.
then head down and ride the bike for 30 min, followed by a light lifiting cycle for about 30 min.
followed by....you guessed it a 30 min yoga session. drinking several large glasses of gator aid and water mix.
this of course is all after my gear is loaded in the van and ready to roll.
i then hit the shower take a nice long hot shower.
toss on my sweats and head to the rink.
lay out all my gear (Im prety anal about the way i lay out my gear..wierd but its a ritual.) then plug in the boom box and ipod and head again in to a light stretch session for a few min like the youngsters..lol
the playlist is set to start easy then raise the BP and game face
Hit the ice toss bottle on net, get by dot and finish my strect in gear |

I normally do most of warmups without stretching. I don't play for the first half of warm ups because i'm not stretched out, but then i let the other goalie go in for a while, step aside and do my stretching for a little longer then a minute. I think i can stretch better on the ice because it's good to be warmed up before stretching, and off ice my body can't slowly slide to a good stretching postition like it does on the ice. But after stretching i take a few more shots, skater around and am ready to go. _________________ Pads-Simmons 993. (995's are on the way)

| In HS we have 15 minutes, I usually spend a lot of them standing behind the net waiting for the 3rd string goalie to get his a$$ out |

I listen to one of my playlists on my way to the game; same songs, same order. Get to the arena, pull out my tennis ball and spend bout 2-3 minutes bouncing it off the wall and catching it bare handed while listening to another song. Get in the dressing room, get half dressed (up to and including my goalie pads). Go out in the hall and do some stretching to loosen up. Move my glove and blocker around, getting used to following the puck in, visualizing making the save. Do 5 butterflies. Get back in the dressing room, puck on my C/A and jersey, tuck my head inside and have a pre-game chat with myself.
Get on the ice, skate hard to the net, scratch up just the middle part. Get down, do some minor stretching since I'm usually pretty good by now. Get up, if the shooters aren't ready I skate out and along the blue line watching the other team warm up. Get back in net, take a few shots standing up, then get warmed up and start butterflying to make the save, then do a butterfly slide for the next one. Our warm-up is only 4 minutes so the buzzer sounds. Team skates off to the bench for a talk from the coach. I stay in net, have another chat with myself. Then take two breakaway slides, tap my posts in order, and get ready to start the game.
Always the same, every game. _________________

Before getting to the rink I'll listen to something relaxing, Liam Finn, maybe some Weezer just because I love them and occasionally I'll listen to Abbey Road while burning incense. When I get to the rink I chill for a while and watch the game playing before we get on the ice. Once it's the third period I head to the locker to get dressed. We get about 5 minutes for warm-up. I spend the first minute stretching and skating around. After that, I take shots in a horseshoe drill for about 1:30-2:00. After that I let the backup goalie warm and spend the rest of the time passing rebounds and loose pucks to the corners. _________________ That's what she said!

pshh FS don't need no stinking bfly slides... he's like Chuck Norris in net... once the puck realizes it's FS in net, they just fall harmlessly in front of him - or else they'll get a roundhouse kick through the opposing net.... twice. _________________ random spelling mistakes added on purpose to annoy those that are annoyed by it. |

Routine...
In High School...I usually drink two Poland Springs bottles sometime before I get on the bus, unless it's a long ride, in which case I drink on the bus. Then I get on the bus, put my iPod on and try to drown out the idiot sounds and laughters from my teammates. I usually read a the New England Hockey Journal when there's a new one out on the way to the rink. Then when we get there, I go out back of the bus and wait for my bag to get unloaded, and then I go inside. Get a good spot away from the teammates I especially hate, like this little, squeeky voiced, scrappy, conceited freshman, who thinks he is good but he sucks. Then I'll usually stretch once I get my jock shorts, socks, and shirt on, so I don't get my dress clothes all wrinkled and dirty. When I'm done that I'll get dressed up to my leg pads and stretch a little more. Then I'll sit there and talk to someone or go and watch the game if there is one until the coach wants us dressed. Then I get my top part on. He tells us what we have to do...then when the zamboni is off we get ready to go out and I put my helmet and gloves on and we got out for warm ups. I usually skate two half laps, making it a point to go about 8 or 10 feet on the other teams side, then I'll get in the crease and stretch until they're ready. Then they take shots on breakaways then the D take slapshots from the circles. Then I get out, stretch some more, say hi to any of the players on the other team I know, like we'll go to the boards on our sides and talk while stretching...and then I try to get back in for 2 on 1's and when it's over we line up on the goal line, and when I'm playing I stand in the goal and they announce everyone who is starting. Then they do the anthem. Then I get a water bottle, go over to me net, drink some, and then I stand at the top of the crease leaning on my pads. Then the ref goes, "ready" and I nod my head and we start. Then I make a bunch of crazy saves and make everyone jealous by posting it on goalieforum.
And that is my detailed pre game |
