In my warm up i don't do anything untill i get on the ice, start stretching my kegs as i skate, then go to a spot next to the boards, start stretching everything else... head to the net, and start facing some shots, NO BREAKAWAYS only shots, then as we are about to start i get a buddy of mine to be about 5 feet away from me and he shoots, if i don't stop it, i do 10 push ups, not fun with goalie gear on! Not much but it works for me!

Is this in practice or before games? Pushups would seem like a bad idea before the game. _________________

| This is just before the game is about to start. The idea of doing pushups is supposed to make me try harder to stop the shot. |

i wouldn't recommend the pushup thing...
first thing i do is on the way to the rink, i turn on the radio and try to find a song w/ a good rhythm to sing or hum in my head during the game. it really helps me keep my mind clear and get into a groove quickly.
generally i try to focus a little before the game... my players always called it my "meditating phase"... stare off into the distance and clear my head. its hard since before my games i was always coaching the youth goalies, taking payments for different things, helping people with questions, reffing other adult games, or playing forward/defense for my other team...
i also like taking a lot of shots from the outside, and later in warmups a couple in close. if someone tries to come in on a breakaway and deke, i just let them go by and cuss them out as they pass. the idea is just to feel the puck and get the adrenaline going. with about 30 seconds left in warm ups i start doing stretches and keep doing them till the ref drops the puck. _________________ Because it hurts so good.

Why don't you just try your hardest to stop the shot and just not do push ups if it goes in |

| I guess i could do that too, but still, it's just a routine. Everyone does something different. |

Don't worry these guys like to jump all over you, if you're not doing things the way they expect you too. Just ignore the arrogance.
Hell do jumping jacks or push ups if it gets you pumped.
EDIT: IS THAT BETTER BUDDY?

No, that's not the reason. The fact that you don't want to tire yourself out before the game is the reason why we are giving our opinions. You want to feel warmed up and refreshed before you play a game, not tired. I could barely understand what you meant in the first sentence. You should really read your posts before you click the "submit" button.
Amurley: Nobody is getting on you for doing your routine. If it's your routine, and you are accustomed to it, that’s cool. If that's what gets you into the game, and gets you working hard, then good for you. _________________

You should really tone down your attitude and arrogance before you hit the submit button. |

Y'all should stop fighting before PS needs to step in and hit her submit button
I missed half of that argument, but seriously guys.
amurley - If you wanna do pushups before starting, that's cool. It's no different than goalies who do 10 up and downs as part of their warm ups.
montreal - if you don't want to tire yourself out... then what about the guys you see who do 10 butterflies in a row, and still play amazing in the game? (Not trying to start yet another argument - just a valid question) |

i'll do 5 to 10 butterflies... completely different. as a goalie your core and upper legs should be the strongest parts of your body (hell, as a human being those are the strongest parts of your body), that part of your body is designed to support your weight all day long... your arms aren't. i don't feel 10 butterflies afterwards... 10 pushups i'd notice... i have arms like toothpicks too though, sooooooo maybe it's just me. _________________ Because it hurts so good.

Okay, maybe that's just you. I've seen OHL goalies from quite a few visiting teams who will do 10 up and downs before the puck drops. |

lol, maybe you SHOULD be doing more push ups then.
10 pushups would just get my blood pumping. But I go to the gym regularly. |
