Hey guys,
I don't play a lot. Just once a week, and it's just rec. Here's the problem. any shot to the glove glances either off the tip or the top edge and into the net. What can I do to improve hand-eye co-ordination?
Thanks _________________ GO LEAFS GO!!! |

| I guess you could try juggling or something. It's easy to learn and it improves hand eye coordination. |

Hey m8,
Practice, Practice, Practice.....
Have a couple of your buddys practice with you and shoot glove from various distances (both high and low)......
After a bit switch to 1-timers.....this will be good for all of you....
Once in a while, me and some of the guys will rent the ice for an extra hour just to practice stuff we arnt comfortable with.....
Makes all the difference in the world......
Practice some 1 vs 1 breakaways 2......

Juggling's good, but you don't look the ball into your hands, and you need to look the puck into your glove. I'd suggest cup stacking. I know, you guys all think i'm insane now. But my parents got my lil brother it for xmas and i've given it a whirl and i think it's helped my hand-eye coordination waaay better then my juggling. I've noticed a big difference in the lil while i've been playin it.
btw, we've already got like 3 other threads on glove hand stuff, check there first next time.. _________________ Pads-Simmons 993. (995's are on the way)

Thanks guys, I'm gonna try this stuff. I did look around and didn't see anything on the first couple pages, but I guess I should use the search feature. Thanks again. _________________ GO LEAFS GO!!! |

I had a similar issue when I first started playing. turns out I was closing my glove before the puck actually got to it. Any change this has anything to do with the issue you're having. Just a thought. _________________

A simple way to get used to the glove and improve hand eye cordination is to throw tennisball to a wall and catch it.
If it's too easy, ask your friend throw it behind you. Catch it straight from the air.
And if it's still too easy, stand on a balance board. Then you'll have to focus on the balance, not in the glove, so the hand will work by reactions.
This way the ice time can be used more efficiently. _________________ "If you can dream it, you can do it." -Walt Disney

I had a similar problem early on as well. And it turned out that when I really concentrated on where my glove hand was positioned when facing a shot I realized that I had abandoned holding it in the proper position. So for me the problem was partly solved by just concentrating on positioning.
Of course, hand-eye coordination definitely has something to do with it. I've done a variety of the previous suggestions to help with that and it does work. Just takes time and effort... _________________ GO CANUCKS! |

Along with all these great responses, try throwing a tennis ball against the wall (doesn't have to be hard)and close your eyes until you here it hit the wall. Also, a common problem I used to see, particularly in younger goalies, was to stab your hand at the puck (swatting almost). You quite often end up rimming it with your glove when you in advertantly change the angle of your glove opening to face slightly down. When I was young I found that I would start squeezing my glove shut (in anticipation) once the puck was shot. I also started holding my glove hand high (shoulder height) and found this helped alot.
Practice, even if it's ball hockey, as the ball curves alot, and it helps tracking.
