I push the net off constantly! I also started as an adult, so I don't have any technique at all. The one thing I have going for me is that I was a catcher my whole life, so I have a great glove, and have the general positioning to play goalie. Develop your own style and don't worry about trying to fit the mold of what everybody else is doing. Do whatever feels comforable for you to keep the puck in front of that line.
