Anybody try this before?

Fitness expert Jillian Michaels hosts this 60 minute integrated program designed to mix cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and an intense focus on the abs to create a dynamic system that can result in extreme weight loss as impressive as 20 lbs. in 30 days.

Basically, you do 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs. It's got 3 different difficulty levels.

I came across it on YouTube and figured I'd try out Level 1. I've gotta say it's definitely not easy, but it gets you sweating. My favorite was that you just keep going the whole time, without a rest for 20 minutes straight. Oh, and to have Jillian there yelling at you not to turn off the TV? Priceless. 5-star for her comment about jumping jacks - "I've got 400 pound people who can do this - so you can too"

For someone like itech, I'd be interested in how well you'd get through level 3. Seems pretty basic and you'd probably find it on the easy side since you work out so much... but I don't do a whole ton of working out, so I was really feeling it after 20 minutes (LEVEL 1!)

Here's a clip of the final 10 minutes on level 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkW2xONF0J8

i've always been heard and been told by doctors and people that know a lot more about the stuff than i do that losing more than 5lbs per month is unhealthy and 10lbs can be dangerous.... i'd be wary

Not only excessive weight loss, but also excessive strain. The saying "No pain no gain." is about as far from the truth as you can get. If it hurts, you're doing it wrong. If you're doing it wrong your damages may someday be irreparable and that 20lbs you lost 8 years ago will have you walking like a question mark.

arth the phrase your quoting has nothing to do with the pain of doing an exercise incorrectly. It is pain that comes from pushing yourself. When you push to the limits your body will scream out in anguish as it works and recovers.
If your not feeling the pain your not working hard enough.

Actually that quote was from a group of fitness experts I was watching on some ESPN thing talking about sports training. They said if it hurts you've gone too far. It should never hurt. You're supposed to work until you build a health sweat and you've done what you know your limits are and increase it progressively but never to the point where you feel any pain.

So you're saying if you start to feel leg pain after 10 up and downs... don't do anymore?

I guess it depends on the level of the pain with location... ish? Because I can do 30 seconds worth of push ups, but my arms are always super sore afterwards, and that's just a result of the muscle tearing and then rebuilding (thus making it stronger). Same thing with crunches/sit-ups/anything involving ab work... I do about 30 seconds of non-stop working on it, and it feels like they're on fire, yet always ready by the next day.

Slinky - that's why they call it extreme weight loss. More true for the really obese, because they obviously have a lot more they can lose. (Week 1 on the Biggest Loser - guy weighing 454 lbs lost 30 lbs in one week!). I'd be happy losing a little weight and then just toning the rest.

That completely depends if you're building muscle or toning and slimming.

If you're building you need to feel the burn, as PS stated the muscle needs to rip and tear the tiny micro fibers in order to heal upon it's self and grow stronger.

So you're right if you're talking about toning and slimming off fat. It shouldn't hurt, but if you want to be all muscles like me... then you need to feel the pain.

if your building mass Itech is totally correct you need work each group to faliure and then repeat, repeat, repeat.
for tone and etc you do not.

I also have that echoing in my head from my time in the service.

and if you ever try Rodney Yies Yoga burn...you will hurt.

They were talking about building...not toning. I know it was drilled into us that "you have to tear it down to build it back up" but is it really that hard to believe that the military got something wrong?

Sore afterwards is fine...but if it's hurting as you do it...you've done too much.

when I was lifting and had a trainer we did each group to failure ie curls preacher start at max, then go down a bit and a bit from there. The same plan and routines can be read in mussel fitness magazine on a monthly basis.
but then again like you said you saw this espn.

haha, mussel. Very Happy

Arth, if it's hurting as you do it... how would you ever expect any obese person to get into shape? They'd do 10 jumping jacks, feel pain in their legs and quit. I think there's a certain point you should stop as to no hurt yourself, but I don't think it's as soon as you feel any pain.
