i...uuuh... just don't think that would help to increase my goaltending. It's IMO too simple. The tennis ball doesn't have the shape of a puck. It maybe would help in case of inline hockey but then again you could use a simple inline hockey ball. ok, but i must confess i too use a tennis ball: either i let it somebody throw it - which is best - or i stand in front of a wall(level or unlevel, depends on where i am) and just throw it myself. Anyways, sometimes it's only out of boredness, or lack of ice time Sad Confused

I'm not real fan of the drill. You should incorporate rebound control into all your drills in practice that you can, and smothering all pucks that are smother-able.

Matze... I don't even know the last time I've seen a roller hockey ball, probably 12 years ago... maybe 10? And i've been playing roller hockey that entire time. We have pucks now too. Plastics make it possible! =P

To be honest i'm not quite sure of that point. I've only seen some pics of guys playing inline hockey and there was somehow a ball Wink Sorry, just starting to play inline hockey in a few weeks. By the way: do you usually use your ice hockey pads for inline hockey as well? I just got a nice new pair of pads which i don't want to spoil...

Roller hockey always wears on the pads about 3x harder then ice. I have separate sets for each.

On a side note though I don't really see what this drill is going to be truly beneficial for. It should be second nature for us to pull the puck in...this just seems...kind of "duh" to me.

I'm too poor for 2 sets of pads that fit me, otherwise I absolutely would. Certain floors will tear your pads up more than others. Outdoor rinks are like cheese graters. Indoor rinks there's:

your normal painted concrete floor.
sport court is a plastic based tile floor. It's not terrible on pads, but it's certainly worse than ice
"spyder court" - very close to sport court but, it's worse b/c the holes in the tiles are bigger. it's terrible for players wheels, not nice to goalie pads
ice court - polyeurothane tiles. Probably the friendliest to goalie equipment of all the roller hockey surfaces, wear your pads down 2x - 3x faster than on ice.

Well, that scares me a little. I better get a pair of used and not the latest to preserve my just bought premier series which are virtually new. I couldn't stand watching those tear down too early..

There are some DECENT pads that are made moreso for street/roller hockey that aren't all that expensive. Hopefully someone on here knows what they are because I can't for the life of me remember. That way you can keep your ice set looking so fresh and so clean clean.

reebok 6ks are fine for roller, $300 or so.

mission makes a series of pads "designed" for roller hockey. they're crap if you're a butterfly goalie, but work well for standup goalies.

Right right...sorry...didn't even think about that. All the main lines have the lower end lines that are probably good enough for roller hockey. Just don't get confused and take them on the ice...lol

wow you guys love to go off topic

The ball exercise doesn't have to be a ball, it can be a roller puck, a real puck, or a freaking rock. it's about being quick in the movements to bring in a puck. The fundamentals are going to be the same no matter what surface you're playing on. It's about speeding up timing, looking at the object position, and reaching. You may not think it's a big deal, but I'm sure 80% of you could use some improvement in the area.

You already gave your opinion, and it's not useless.

I'm going to agree that this may...MAY be useful...but I still think that it'd be far more useful to do the Tretiak shuffle with two tennis balls off the wall.[/b]
