so im 15, im going to be preparing myself to play goalie next year for just a junior team and im wondering what kind of stretches i should be working on to get my butterfly down etc. Also for the splits, how much of a deal is it if i can do them or not? How much should i stretch a day and stuff like that?

If you can be flexible enough to do the splits, that's great, but, it's not something you have to be able to do. Split saves are pretty much a last ditch save, although being able to do them may save you from the odd groin injury. I haven't been able to do them for a long time and it hasn't affected my game any.

The splits would be cool. I wish I could do them, I find it makes you look more intense in the warm-ups and stuff. Just my opinion though.

I usually stretch for about 15-20 minutes daily... and you get more flexible as you go along, so by the end of the summer you could potentially be able to do the splits.

Flexibility is great to have, but dont forget strength. You need lots of power in your legs, a good strong core and lots of balance. You also need to know how to shift ur weight from one leg to the other and u need good hand eye coordination. There is soo much more to goaltending than just being flexible, as I myself am finding as i get more into the position. You have to know your angles and how to be square to the puck, how to move while in butterfly...there is soo much its unreal. But flexibility is good to have. If you google search quad flex stretches or goaltender stretches, you will find a bunch of good ones. http://www.hockeygoalies.org/advice/stretch.html & http://www.vaughnhockey.com/goaltending_resources/stretching/stretching.htm . there are some good stretches that will help you out. Try to get your parents to get you a few goalie camp sessions, they help. Yoga is good too but some ppl will be like "FAG!" Since your only 15...but when u become flexible like zohan then ppl will respect you Twisted Evil

Hadn't we determined on another thread that the term "guys" included both the male and female genders?

Since you have under 10 posts, I was allowed to correct you once, just so that you don't start referring to everybody as "men" or anything Wink Very Happy
