Well, I'm in grade 12 this year my last year eligable to play for High School. I barely got cut in grade 10 and I decided not to play last year. I only played half the year last year with minor hockey until I got fed up with the way things were ran. Well I found out today my High School is looking for another goalie but the thing is I havn't played for awhile, and I deffinitly havn't played High School level hockey in awhile either.

I was just woundering if there's any tips/drills or anything at all you guys could give me to help me be a little more prepared for when I play High School.

Thanks

Sounds like you have a hell of an attitude to start with...

For workouts you can try this:

This was another thing I've included in my workout that I alternate with my own workout. It was given to me by my High School coach and he promised me that I would be a better and more all around hockey player if I did this as part of my work out.

Warm up: 5 minute light jog and light stretch.
(hydrate with 16 oz. of water 20 minutes before workout)

I. FOUR-UPS

1st Period: Maximum Push-Ups (Capped at 50)

2nd Period: Maximum Pull-Ups

3rd Period: Maximum Sit-Ups (Capped at 50)

Overtime: Maximum Chin-Ups

*5 minute intermission/water up

II. PUCK BUCKETS
Plyometrics for speed, power, quickness, agility & balance
*equipment needed: 5 pucks and 2 plastic utility buckets. Place bucket A 10 yards away from bucket B and place 5 pucks into bucket A to begin. Object is to move the 5 pucks, one at a time, from bucket A to bucket B while going in a figure 8 at full speed and on balance. One minute rest between A to B movement and B to A movement. Two minute rest between periods.

1st Period: Sprint....A to B forward....B to A backward
2nd Period: One Foot Hop....A to B on left foot....B to A on right foot
3rd Period: Side Shuffle....same movement A to B and B to A....pivot at each bucket
1st Overtime: Carioca Shuffle....same movement A to B and B to A...pivot at each bucket
2nd Overtime: Squat Leap....same movement A to B and B to A

*5 minute intermission/water up

III. Rhythm Shooting
*Use gloves, a puck, and your goalie stick while doing this. Do it on a smooth surface
1st Period: Wrist shot....25 pucks
2nd Period: Back hand....25 pucks
3rd Period: Wrist shot....25 pucks
Overtime: Back hand....25 pucks
Warm down: 5 minute light job and light stretch
*Water up

Any questions just ask.

=====================================================

Then just go to some free skates and things like that. Read some website articles on http://www.vaughnhockey.com/goaltending_resources/goaltending_resources.htm

Maybe watch some Youtube vids on goalies training and try to learn some of that.

I'm gonna add puck buckets to my work-out. I need most help on my agility and speed.

Yeah, that would be a good idea. I have to into like super over-drive with my workouts because I haven't done anything in like the past month and High School will be here in a month and a half.

Right now, all I've really done is Push-ups, Sit-ups, Lunges, Calf Raises ans stretching. I have to start stretching a LOT more.

I don't patitulary care for running. And I havn't lifted since school started. The gym's hours are changed, and no one on our team goes anymore. I wonder if the other goalies on the team work-out at home? I know the sohpmore said he runs...

Running is important so you don't die in the 3rd period of HS games. Lifting is important because your core muscles are first to contract when moving, you'll be all around quicker. And lunges and sqauts help you become more explosive.

I have a bench press and dumbbells so I don't need to use my schools gym. I've been thinking about going back to Saco Sport and Fitness, though, they have a lot of stuff.

Well, running is fine, but I hate running in circles. Mad Mad Mad Don't ask me why, but it pisses me off. I ran like a 10:00 mile or so in gym class. I don't really care about time, I'm happy I can do it without stopping or feeling dead, but the time keeps bringing my grade down. Not that it matters, sit-ups and push-ups help me bring it back up. Smile

Haha Laughing Laughing Laughing I prefer to run in trails instead of on a track, I would be willing to bet it affects your running times if you run a mile on a trail instead of a track.
