I think that some drills work well for some people and others for the rest of them. I have not yet found a drill that I enjoy more than another, some are very uncomfortable for me. I am not sure why.

What do you think of goalie drills.

yeah, me too. I am not into some of the drills that our coach makes us do, but you know when you want to get better you just do it and like it I guess. I am looking for some to help with speed some more and have been told that some of the drills in the books are better for that than others. My team does not always do all the drills infact we only do a couple because that is what our coach likes to do and says is better.

I have no problem with the drills. I have no favorite and I just do them because they are a way to get you focused on what you are doing and gives you the oppotunity to increase your speed and foot/eye coordination.

whatever the drills your team does they will all benefit the team in whole. Goalie drills are there to help the goalie be prepared for whatever shots come their way. I am glad that we have the extra training help to make us better at blocking shots.

Shilo is right. You need to practice as a team to make sure that you are all in sinc with each other. Nothing like playing a game by yourself.

practicing as a team is important along with knowing your team and what they are capable of.

Everone has an idea of what they think the best drills are. Being comfortable is part of it.

everyone has their favorite drill whether or not they realize it and some of the favorties may not be goalie drills at all. But you still have them. We know that not all people in the forum are goalies or would want to be one and that is fine.

I've found that the best drills are ones that make me more conscious of angles. Its so very necessary to know where you're at on the ice, and there's so many things that could go wrong. You might think that you're in the right position, but you've pushed too hard with one leg or the other, and now you're off to one side, giving the shooter most of the net. Its taken me a long time to realize that on shots from my right, I'll tend to push myself to the post, and not stay in the middle of the net. I still forget this and kick myself after I realize what's happened.

I agree, the angle in which the puck comes at you, can make or break that play and your attempt to stop it, even if you want to. If you are not prepared for it you will not be able to block it. It is very easy to over estimate and end up in a wrong position. I agree, about being at the post and not in the middle, it has happened to me way too many times.

yeah yeah that should really be common knowledge shouldn't it. I think that if you want to know the game you need to watch the game and play the game and feel the game.

Groval... that is not common knowledge for new beginners, or for some other players.

I agree with you JGTAYLOR. It depends on the strengths and weaknesses of each individual goalie. If someone is really good at handling the puck, they might prefer drills when the players pass it to the goalie, and then the goalie has to pass it back, whereas if another goalie is really good at doing lots of up and downs in a row, they might prefer a drill that focusses (sp?) on that instead.

yeah it's the same by me. I honestly hate drills but that is the only way to get better.
