the clip at 0:07-0:08 seconds in, where the one goalie is kinda kneeling on the board. Any idea what that is? Like, just a piece of wood that they bounce pucks off of, or do they put any kind of material over it?
there's a better shot of it from 0:31-0:37.
It actually just looks like a bench flipped onto its side.. |

yeah... but I'm wondering, do they put anything over the front to make the puck bounce better? Or is it just straight wood? |

many are just wood, some are wood frames with the same material as the BOARDS which makes them a bit more springing, but high velocity is not the purpose of the drill, the purpose is get the goalie moving, tracking the puck and making the save on the deflection. Getting used to knowing when a puck is being shot slightly wide for the deflection and for a two on 0-1 situation, the slot pass from low, there are numerous set ups for this drill. MY favorite for advanced training is to use 2 boards with the screen, so the goalie only gets to track so far then the shot can come from one of two basic locations, forcing the goalie to not only move, but actually react each time a puck the only get to see again from very close.
That drill is way better than any bag over the head drill.
you can get the same effect at home by turning net from the garage door and having a shooter do bank shots off the door....bonus here is that they can do higher shots as well. _________________

| I've actually been debating about getting one of those, I've heard nothing but good things about them. |

| yeah, i think it would be even better for deflection practice than the backdoor wood thingy, because that seems to judge whether or not you can do a butterfly slide, while theres not really anything that actually simulates a deflection that would come on a tipped shot or something |
