well seeing you wont be playing be for a while...
dont listen to them. i stood there the other day and listened to parent lecture about a teams goalie for 5 min about how he should stay up and this and that down to soon, etc.. i poked my head over and said "he is a butterfly goalie, a butterfly goalie plays down, he has nice slide and recovery, and good net coerage."
the score of the game was a loss for him 3-1 but his D was none existant i pointed that out as well.
the thing is folks will say this alot, because it is ingrained in peoples heads from back in the day when a goalie who went down could not move and got burned. Truth be told we all hear this...like on the slap shot fromt he point...its coming low so you bfly, it gets tipped and goes in up in a corner...its guaranteed that some player on your team or some one will say, why did you go down, or if you stayed up like I aways say that would not have gone in, see.
the point being no matter what style you play your going to hear that stuff. YOU need to play your game your style your way. you know when you scew up. like if you go down to early on a deek....but ask what was that guy doing running free at you...in hockey blame can roll out of the net minder just as quickly as it can roll in...more likely out faster than in. |

I had the exact same thing happen to me on a team I played on in the last city I lived in. We were winning most of our games, but the odd one that we lost, I would get the same reaction from some of my team mates. I started asking the d-men who were telling me not to go down exactly what they were doing on the play. That didn't work, so I asked which one of them wanted to play net instead. That also didn't work. About 10 minutes into a game, and after allowing one goal on a tipped shot that I'm pretty sure deflected off my d-mans stick, I was again told, "don't go down, blah blah blah. If you had of stayed up the puck would have hit you." I was so tired of the BS, I looked back at the guy and said "okay, you don't want me to go down, I won't", just loud enough for the rest of my guys to hear. I stuck to it too. I didn't go down for the rest of that period and part of the next. When we were down by a few more goals, a couple of which I normally would have stopped with my butterfly or butterfly slide, the captain of the team skated back to me and told me to just play my game and basically told the rest of the team to shut up and play their positions. We ended up winning the game by one goal and they never told me how to play my position again. _________________

Jeez C-dawg that was a complicated plan. I would have just gotten naked and ran around the rink.
It depends on how you're getting scored on when you go down. If it's like a 2 on 1 and they make a pass, you slide over, and they pass back and tap it in...You're going down too early. If you're just getting beat up high when you're down, you might not be coming out enough so they can still see the top shelf and easily shoot it in. How are you getting beat when you go down? |

| It isn't bad to take advice from a shooters point of view, though |

Shooters are the best people to listen to when they're telling you about angles. My friend's a d-man and he helps me all the time to set me straight. _________________ That's what she said!

But if a non-goalie starts talking about technique, that's just annoying.
P.s. Yay I'm in the hall of fame! _________________ That's what she said!

Welcome
I hate it when I walk through the hotel lobby when we're at a tournament and I hear some of the mother's talking to their goalies and saying stuff along the lines of "why did you go down?" "that's not right" And clearly they have no idea what they're talking about.
I like to go up in the stands, sit behind everybody and listen to some of the comments about the goaltending. And I just shake my head at the stupidity _________________
