I don't need any help with them, I know how to do them, but I found a way to cheat at them too.
Watching the Corey Wogtech video, he emphasizes the fact that you need to use your whole skate blade on your power leg to push across, but I've noticed this takes a little more time and is a little harder to do.
What I've discovered is useful for situations where you only need to move short distances around the crease, NOT for long range slides.
(I don't know if you guys do this already but here it is)
When you want to slide a short distance, use the TOE of your skate blade.
While youre down in the butterfly, do everything you normally would to slide, but only use the toe of your power leg. You get a good strong push but it's only enough power to propel you a short distance. This reduces the risk of over sliding and ending up out of position.
This is NOT an alternative to the normal butterfly slide, just a variation for short distance situations.
I personally use the normal slide in Long-Pass situations where I have to cover a whole lot of area very quickly.
I use the Toe slide in goal mouth scramble situations, post to post slides where the shooter is trying to wrap around on me and on slight angle changes I need to make while in the butterfly.
If I can, I'll get someone to video me at a practice to show you what I'm talking about. _________________

That's actually how I do my butterfly slide anyway. I get more power in it because I use the overdrive blades also, but, I can go from one side of the crease to the other on good ice. My current pads have that stupid cordura on the sides so they don't slide well, but, if the ice is hard, I can get all the way across. On soft ice it's a lot harder, but, the pucks moving slower too. _________________

I also use the front 1/2 of the blade to push and I get across the crease with little effort.(good pads) The downside is that I have a very sharp skate and it leaves craters in the crease every now and then. FYI I use a 7/16 hollow. _________________ It's all about foot speed.

yeah, that happens to me too.
I end up digging these huge ruts and chunks out of the ice that I have to sweep snow into and then pour water on. _________________

I'm forever cleaning my crease. I get a huge pile of snow on the post and the guys on the other team keep complaining saying I'm trying to get and edge on the wrap around. It just that my skates are so sharp that I make too much snow and always sweep to the right post. I use it to fix the gouges too. I guess it has a use after all. _________________ It's all about foot speed.

I clean my crease to keep myself busy during stoppages of play.
Used to be that I'd get to looking around and get distracted and my head wouldnt be in the game anymore.
But yeah I always sweep to the right post and I've been saved by my little Glacier at times. One time the puck actually bounced off the frozen snow and away from the net.
so yeah it IS useful _________________

I do the same thing, almost at every whistle i'll take a sip of water, and i'll sweep my crease clean. I get a lot of snow but i don't really have a lot of these ruts that u guys are talking about. I like pretty sharp skates too, 3/4 i think.
but on the original subject, I already use about 1/2 of my toe to push of, i definetly don't get the whole skate blade on there like ur supposed to technically, but i'm a little more comfortable doin it this way. _________________ Pads-Simmons 993. (995's are on the way)

I like making snow angels, or sometimes I just make mini snowmen during practice. It pisses the coach off a little, but it's still pretty funny.

My butterfly slides are working out a lot better now that I got rid of the skate lace in the front of my leg pads, but now my leg pads are rotating so that the leg channel feels like it's creeping to the inside of my legs. I tried to correct this by tightening up the 2 leather straps on my knees just 1 hole. It seems to help somewhat, but not a lot. Is there anything else I should do, or am I forced to sacrifice extra butterfly slide power if I put the lace back on the front of my pads to help stabilize the pads again?

I get a ton of snow build up too and use in compairson to all of you a dull skate 1 hollow. gives me more than enough bit to play the puck and enough no bite for good sliding shuffles.

Thanks for all the help everyone has given me. You guys are geniouses, and since I'm playing better, my teammates are reaping the rewards and our starter is fearing for his job. But I keep telling him that we're a family, because......well............we are a family. When he plays poorly, I come in and back him up, and vise versa, and when he plays well, I'm there to cheer for him, and vise versa, hopefully. I also made sure to thank my oach after the game tonight for giving mr some extra playing time, and giving me a shot to contribute to the team, but I also apologized for giving up 7 goals. They told me that I did prett well considering how shorthanded we were, but my teammates were asking me how I made some of those ESPN Sportscenter-worthy saves. I simply told them that I was just trying to put leather on rubber, and I don't even remember half of what I did that night which I don't. All I wanted to do was win the game.

what is a cordura? is it a bend in the knee landing pad things? or is it the knee landing thing itself? Because i have a pair of simmons and i notice its the only pad that has a bent sliding support on the calf...so would this f me up in bfly slides? _________________ |
