| I have always wondered why a majority of goalies wear numbers 30-35. I can understand why someone would wear #1. Are they possibly using their pad size? |

That's pretty interesting. Could be when they start they just put the age they figure their going to retire at. _________________

well I have always associated it to this....back in the day...lol
1-3 were reserved for goalies, centers could wear 4-14
wings up to 22 Defense men 23-29 and goalies in the 30's
then in the 80's or so...some folks figured out there 99 double digit numbers for a jersy.
i used to be 24...and 2
I am now going to go with 37...my current age as I get back in the net. |

That's interesting also. I know Giguere wears 35 because it is the highest number the Ducks allow a goalie to wear.
Can anyone think of a NHL goalie who does not wear a number 1-5 or 30-35? |

Maybe it's because goalies are different so they take the numbers noboby else wants. After all we're playing the position nobody else wants.........except for us crazy guys. _________________

Mike Smith from the stars wears 41, I wear 41
Kevin Weekes from the Rangers wears 80
Hannu Toivonen wears 47 (weird much?)
Kolzig wears 37
Gerber, Fleury and McLennan (evil s***) wear 29
some teams have limits on how high a netminders number can be, other goalies choose to wear a number multiplied by 2 (Theodore wears 60 because he wore 30 in juniors and wasn't able to wear it for the Habs, so he just doubled it)
some guys wear outrageous numbers, I used to wear 84 and when people would ask me why I'd just shrug and walk off.
some wear their heroes number, others wear a number assigned to them and some just do whatever.
Nikolai Khabibulin wore 53 for about a month in Chicago because it's 35 backwards and 35 is retired for Esposito in Chi-town. _________________

yah, #29 that's my number, go Fleury!
Anyway, about the numbers. I've always wondered that too, there are a few numbers that goalies usually wear (eg. 1,30,31,32,33,35,20). _________________ Marc-Andre Fleury ROCKS!

interestingly enough, I wear a 2. It has almost always been my number. However, for the first six years I played hockey, I did not play goalie.
Perhaps playing goalie was my destiny all along o.O...
or maybe 2 is just my lucky number >.> _________________ By the time you've read this, you've already read it. |

I got stuck with plain old 33
sometimes i use some tape and change it to .33 with a repeating sign over the 33
next time i might do 1/33, just for fun. |
