I have heard that the bruins are offering kessel for chris pronger. Could be a good deal, and chara with pronger would be dominate. And the B's might not get another chance as good as this to win it all so one rising star for a top d-man could put them over the top.

That would be a huge loss on Boston's part IMO. Kessel is still young and still has room to grow. Pronger is just going to elbow people in the face and get suspended. They have a lot of chemistry going and I would be leery of changing up the lineup if I were their GM.

Habs offering up Kovalev to FLA for Bouwmeester? Or more likely to Edmonton for Cole and a prospect.

I can see Fernandez getting moved out of Boston to Colorado for Liles or Hejduk or Svatos.

Would not be surprised if the Pens take a gamble on Gaborik for Jordan Staal and a pick or prospect.

Pittsburgh is probably also talking to Edmonton about Cole.

That's all I can think of right now.

So far Montreal has picked up Janik for Begin. Probably just clearing up a little cap space.
They've also acquired Metropolit off waivers from Philly. Decent pickup there and they didn't have to give anything up for him.

Hopefully Gainey makes a couple more trades for possibly another top defenseman and a little more offense.

I've heard some talk from insiders that the B's are holding both Fernandez and Thomas for the playoffs, crazy talk if you ask me. I'm with mx42, i see them trading him... if they can convince a team he'll stay healthy Laughing they might even get a #2 defenseman and a role player for him and a prospect.

IMO i think GMs that are heavily buying players at the deadline are shooting themselves in the foot long term. Take Ken Holland's approach. Pick up some role players to fill out where you're thin, but wait for the free agency to pick up those big names your team wants... helps when everyone is willing to take a $2 mill pay cut to play w/ the Wings though...

And don't be surprised if Bouwmeester doesn't get traded. Panthers haven't touched hockey after mid April in almost a decade. Expect them allow another team to get a crack at signing him before July 1st in exchange for a prospect or two, instead.

I think that Gainy picked up Metropolit, because there are shopping a 3rd, 4rth, and possibly a second line center man, so they will need somebody with some skill on face-offs to cover up. I defenseman will be gone by the trade deadline. Schneider has come, and that leaves somebody like Markov, or Komesarek going.

Something big is going to happen very soon.

The Caps need a goalie. Maybe Clemmensen or Fernandez, but Theodore is going to be the death of that team.

Only Rick DePietro gets hurt more often than Fernandez. Caps would end up just throwing Theodore back in the net half way through the 2nd period of game 1.

Huet's with the Blackhawks now.

I think Montreal picked up Metropolit because of the lack of right handed shots on their team.

I will put money on this not happening.

You don't ship a goalie of Fernandez's caliber, nor one having as wonderful a season as Clemmy, to a rival team in your conference before playoff time.

Doing so has a wonderful way of turning out poorly and getting GMs fired.

Just got an update on Pronger deal and it appears Pronger to the Bruins is very real and salary cap issues are the only thing holing it up right now. One interesting twist is that Phil Kessel is currently not the main Bruin going back to Anaheim. I am being told that defenseman Mark Stuart, Prospect Joe Colborne and a first round pick in 2010 would go to Anaheim in exchange for Pronger and forward Travis Moen. Both teams have apparently agreed in principle on a trade.

.... and yesterday on ESPN.com

"Boston has been rumored as another possibility for Pronger, but we were told Saturday the Bruins are no longer in the running."

Looks like Mattias Ohlund is willing to waive his no trade clause if the receiving team will sign a contract right away. He only wants to move once. This heats up the teams in need of a solid d-man, because he's one of the best in the business.
