I would like to see that. I also would like to see Hamilton as well.
It's Canada's game. |

| When "news" is available only in video form on the internet, there's usually a good reason for it: it's just some guy(s) talking. |

quoting
"This is not a torqued story. This is a good, solid business story," Strachan told CBC News on Monday.
"There is a desire on the part of these people to move Atlanta to Winnipeg, but as I stress, it is not imminent."
Any deal would need approval from the NHL board of governors, Strachan said, adding there are also many legal hurdles to be dealt with in Atlanta."
I doubt the NHL board is going to go for it any time soon, with the economy the way it is right now, I dont see any movement. _________________

Even if it's on Canada's largest hockey program, it's still speculation. Or rumor. Call it what you like.
Thrashers deny Winnipeg rumour |

Didn't the Winnipeg Jets move due to financial reasons?
Maybe the NHL might shrink. Semi-pro teams are hurting due to the economy. You can only sustain so much before it doesn't make financial sense to support a team. |

| Winnipeg would support it better than Atlanta could. |

| Even Carseland BFE Alberta would support it better. Atlanta, Phoenix and Florida aren't really "Hockey Area's" IMO and I think that's something most American's simply will never understand. Even this small town of 500 people has a pro shop and an ice rink/ringette rink/curling rink. In the states only the largest populous areas and those that are more focused on hockey (I.E.-Maine and the rest of New England area) have rinks let alone a pro shop with an actual selection of equipment. |

| Heck I don't even consider Nashville a hockey area. Phoenix, Florida and Atlanta? Definitely not. |

As I recall, it was because the ownership was unable to afford to pay escalating player salaries. Fan support is just one factor of being able to support a team. Almost without exception, smaller cities just can't support major-league teams, because there isn't enough money there. One exception that comes to mind is the Green Bay Packers. |

| Yes and no, if Atlanta or even more accurately Georgia were a hockey state people would make the hour + drive to go see them. It's not, and nobody is willing to make that drive. However a small town most anywhere in Canada is far more likely to have a fan base where people would drive more than an hour to see them. Calgary and Edmonton are 1 and 3 hours respectively but I'd be more than willing to drive to see them play just as would most other people in the area. I'm sure if Calgary were actually the Cow Patch Flames they'd still have a massive following. The mindset is completely different. |

Mr. I-know-American-hockey, there are non-New England states where ice hockey is played and is not considered a large populous area. |

You mean like Bowling Green, Wisconsin, Minnesota or even pockets of Southern California?
I'm very aware of that fact but as a majority they're just pockets. And I might know American hockey pretty well considering that's where I grew up playing it. Just saying. |
