What does the doc says?
Only you and your doc can tell if you're ready. |

It's been 8 weeks so I'd say you're alright, I'd call up the doctor if he hasn't checked you out in a while though. _________________ That's what she said!

Doctor says 8-10 weeks? Have you asked him whether contact sports are okay? I would imagine it's fine, since you're feeling fine and have passed 8 weeks, but you have to consider the fact that you WILL get hit in the belly with pucks when you play goal. I would give him a call just to be sure.
I had gallbladder surgery a couple of months ago, and I was back on the rink after about four weeks, but it was a laparoscopic procedure. If you have traditional incisions the risk of opening them is a lot greater. I waited until I was comfortable with ordinary tasks (walking, bending, moving everyday items) before trying to skate again. Once the skating was comfortable, I had my brother and a friend practice gentle shots to help me assess my tolerance level. My main challenge was getting my abdominal muscles back. I had a tendency to flop a lot in those first few weeks-simply couldn't hold myself up at times, but it got better pretty quickly. Now I'm playing better than ever. So good luck, take it easy, and have fun getting back out there! _________________

I had sugery 5 years ago, had to get my hip fixed since the head of my femur was rotating out of the socket... I was off hockey for at least 8 weeks, and my doctor recommended taking another 4 weeks after that. You don't want to risk ruining anything else by rushing back to play hockey. Think of your health first, and do what's best for you, even if it means missing a little more hockey. _________________

Just think, "you'll play more, when you play little"
