The league apparently has decided to fine both players undisclosed amounts and there will be no suspensions.

Seems like the right thing to do to me.

Why are they banning Osgood? There is no proof that the slash didn't hurt him. I think it was a dive. But they can't say whether that hurt him or not.

Where did you get banned from? And he seemed fine in his interview so I'd say he wasn't seriously hurt.

There actually a few points I'd like to address here. Hawks already addressed the fact that the Stars are down two games and it was a stupid thing to do.
On Osgoods side, who's to say if he was really hurt or not? It's really hard to judge since we're not the ones that got hit by the stick. Did he overplay it? Maybe. On the other hand, the video is kind of blurry so it's hard to tell if part of the stick did get him above the C/A. Although the heel of the stick did hit him in the chest, it is entirely possible that a part of the blade hit him in the throat. This video doesn't really show it unless you look closely at Ribeiros stick when he brings the blade up in the air after the slash, but he hit Osgood hard enough to bread his stick. Also, one of the replays I saw on one of the sports networks showed that the tip of the blade was kind of pointed up when he hit him. Given this, it is entirely possible that he did get hit in the throat/neck area.

I have watched this several times and have drawn the following conclusions.
1. The leagues decision is not quite fair and i believe that if this were not the playoffs the NHL would have suspended Ribeiro indefinitely, but because this is the playoffs...and even though Dallas has 0 chance of winning they are not following their own rules.
2. i understand Osgoods position for the soft move he made to attempt get the skater to slow down and not get a run on his player.
3. i can appreciate taht while Osgoods move is soft, our skater was flying and no doubt with emotion high, it had to hurt as it hit his face...(yet another reason candy a$$ pros should all have to wear full face masks...if i were an owner i would require it!
4. when being slashed Osgood was not prepared for the hit and imagine being slashed, unprepared for the hit, with enough force to the upper chest- clave area to break a stick. that would be enough to send anyone to the ice to make a self assessment on damgages...it was not a dive.
5. That attack with the stick is uncalled for and that kind of stick work is illegal in the NHL. It is my belief that he was infact aiming for Osgoods head. Ribeiro should have been suspended indefinitely. osgood could also have been made to sit a game for his instigation.

i also feel that Ribeiro is now marked and I dont think the retaliation will be forthcoming this series, it will come next season. At any rate this game will be interesting...my guess is lots of calls early

I, for the life of me, cannot understand why players play without full cages. From the time you are a little squirt through college you play with it. It is not like it is something new, or hard to adjust to. The whole argument about having better vision I have found as a laugh since netminders wear full cages (and not all are cat eye) and there are no vision problems there. one wrong puck or stick and you are blind... I think a cage is a fine compromise given that alternative.

#5 ... I simply agree

Interesting thought on the Wings holding off retaliation until next season. It will depend on game 3... if Detroit routes them again then I would expect frsutrations to reach a boil and things could run wild quickly.

I dont know about you guys... but I only hope the Cup finals are as fun to watch as the conference finals.
