For those that did not see it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAsN2A4dawg
Ribeiro of the Stars, after a skirmish as time expired in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals took a hefty slash to Osgood's chest. I dont know if the clip is long enough but you could see live that the stick actually broke from the force of the slash.
As Ribeiro passed Osgood on his way to the gathering behind the net it looks like Osgood might have hit him with a little jab with the butt end of the stick.
In the end, do you think the NHL will hand out a suspension to Ribeiro?
The league told officials to watch closely for goaltender interference as there was plenty of complaining from the Stars after game 1... add that into the mix with the fact that for the most part it was unprovoked and after the game ended and I would think it would stand a good chance something more than a warning would come from it. _________________ you're only as good as your last save

it was a cheap shot. he acted though. but, if you didn't see, osgood got ribero with the knob of his stick right in the face, and it wasn't on accident, you could see him pop up and move his arm. my guess is: nosuspenions here

Yeah, I doubt it actually hurt at all. When I saw it live it looked like he got clipped under the dangler, but then in review it was in the c/a. He did a good job of acting.
Either way, with the game over, the league having warned you of goalie issues, you are already short a couple of guys with injury and now down 2 games to 0 going back to Dallas... slashing Osgood after the game ends doesnt really do anything but possibly put your team in a hole.
Ribeiro was assessed a match penalty so tech. he is suspended indefinitely until the league decides to tell him he can rejoin Dallas.
If Ribeiro slashes Fluery it might be a different story, as a younger Pens team might be thrown off their game a bit with emotion in game 3... however, as much as I hate to say it, this wont effect Detroit. In the end, they will still put the puck in the net, they will just punish you more while doing it... and Turco is going to have to have his head on a swivel. _________________ you're only as good as your last save

Osgood could be a nice actor
Hey, he was getting hit in the chest protector... When a puck with 100 mp/h hits him, he is just fine... _________________ If God were a goalie he had'b my backup!

Same, it might've been uncalled for but Osgood just looks stupid and childish. _________________ That's what she said!

Nothing wrong with it. It could have hurt him. Even if it didn't, the slash shouldn't have been done. If it was an accident it's a different story, but why not?

No it isn't. Ribiero shouldn't have done it in the first place.

Yes it is, it doesn't matter if it was provoked or not. Why do you think there is a penalty for diving? _________________ That's what she said!

They need to change the way dives are called... a dive should eliminate the initial penalty... that is how you stop diving from happening.
As for Osgood... he seemed just fine after it all settled down so he obviously wasnt hurt... maybe winded as he didnt expect the impact, but not hurt.
On ESPN radio this morning they said the leagues' only comment was to review the footage in more detail and they would later decide if suspensions to Osgood (for his butt end jab) or Ribeiro (for his slash) were going to be handed out.
In the end nobody got hurt, but it is this same act that has left players with serious injuries and has given the game a black eye in the past... Your team is down 2 games to none in the conference finals... you need to play smarter than that. Ribeiro should have let it go and filed a grievance with the league to look at Osgood... that would have left Dallas with nothing to worry about and might have gotten in the head of Osgood knowing the refs would be watching him closely for slashes (or possibly get him out for a game and put the shaky Hasek back in). It could have helped Dallas, instead it hurts the sport. _________________ you're only as good as your last save
