| Just wondering what is the best method to clean hockey equipment? I may concerned about infections you may get if bateria builds up on the gear and passes into a cut or scrap. Any suggestions? |

| I have tried many things to clean my gear but the best method for me was the Sani-Sport system. It got rid of the smell and also the bacteria. Hopefully that helps. |

mary,
you're looking at a very low percentage of gaining any infections from the gear. there are many hockey players who have NEVER washed their gear once. all the stuff that goes in the washer, jersey's, sweatbands, etc, just add a tiny bit of bleach.
now chest protectors, you can actually soak in the bathtub with some nice warm water (not too hot or it could warp the padding). you will see the water turn yellow from the sweat. i wouldn't use detergents as they may break down the protection. then let hang dry over the tub. my jocks don't tend to get sweaty as I wear underwear and underarmour gear.
gloves, blockers, should be sprayed with an anti-bacteria product you can pick up at any sports store. |

| So a cat pissed on my pants and 2 of my jerseys. Obviously, the jerseys were easy to clean..the pants...not-so-much. However one of my teammates told me about some place that basically dry cleans hockey equipment and makes it "smell like brand new again". I can't remember what the guy said it's called...hopefully someone else here will know. |

Was the "cat" you? It's a good excuse to be able to get new pants!
Talk to your favorite pro shop, they should point you in the right direction to a local dry cleaner that will do hockey equipment as well. _________________ 6'1" 185 lbs.

No, the "cat" was the cat. I like the equipment I have except for my mask.
And there's no dry-cleaners even remotely close (within 45 minutes) so getting it cleaned or even getting new equipment requires a weekend drive into the city which is easier said then done with 3 kids. |

| I looked into companies that clean equipment and I took a friend's advice and tried the Sani-sport system (www.sani-sport.com). The machine cleaned and eliminated all the bacteria that could cause infections, in about 20 minutes. I loved that! Ask at your local sport store or local arena. |

I feel used, this whole thread was just a shameless attempt to plug their company.
Next time just come out and say "Hey, try us because I said so!" |

On a related note, I like the sani-sport system. It doesn't go by the same name here, but it seemed to work alright. |
