I just finished watching the entirety of the Duke Texas game... can someone please explain to me why the guy with the ball can do whatever he wants, including barreling through people with his elbows in their faces and it's clean, but the defender breathes too hard and the refs are freaking out, "WHOA, BUDDY! THIS ISN'T MMA! KEEP IT CLEAN OUT THERE! THAT'S 2 FROM THE LINE!"
It's a joke. In football or hockey, a guy has his back turned and is trying to go towards the endzone/goal, he's going to get erased. In basketball, the defense is required to get out of his way. I'm not saying drop the hammer on him and throw a Scott Stevens hit (though I wouldn't entirely disapprove), but step in front of the guy, hold your ground. If the refs try and give you 5 fouls, tell you you're out of the game, ignore them. What are they going to do? Shave some more points to win that bet they placed with their bookie? _________________ Because it hurts so good.

| Why? Because basketball sucks in its entirety. End of story. It ALWAYS over-rides hockey no matter what and it's almost a completely useless sport in my opinion because unlike hockey unless they make some MASSIVE changes to the court and baskets? hoops? whatever...the things on either end...there won't be any talent required 10 years down the road to play it. |

You are extremely exaggerating. Basketball is far more complicated than it looks. And in any other thread you once posted that size is everything. Well, size does matter, i can't deny this. But even if you are pretty small you have good chances. Be aware of your feet and quickness and make those big guys dizzy...
I haven't seen the game slinky is referring to but sometimes it's just credits for a star player. No matter which sport it is. Some guy somehow is allowed to do almost everything. That really sucks. And as you have displayed those situations it seems that Texas was absolutely incapable of charging offensive fouls.
For sure basketball is way less about physical play i admit. That's why i sought to be playing hockey. I need some balance too. Anyways you can't compare those two sports. |

| You really can't compare any sports. Maybe the closest two sports in theory are hockey and lacrosse but what I was trying to say is that basketball seems to have far less regulatory rules and constraints to how you play and the biggest guys almost always win out simply because...it's less distance for them to reach up and put the ball in. My hatred for the sport goes way back because when I was in H.S. they always used to have "pep rallies" where they'd announce our entire losing basketball team and have them do all the stupid stuff while everyone cheered for them and we had to sit off on the corner with maybe a "Oh and the hockey team is x-2 this season playing this weekend." Friggin hate basketball. |

it's a dumb sport. i'd like it if you were allowed to actually play defense. but defending is a foul. NO TOUCHING! 2 FROM THE LINE! please. when commentators say that the game was low scoring and had good defense, they really just mean that both teams were shooting like shit _________________ Because it hurts so good.

and the players are pathetic.
really? you're not playing because you stubbed your toe? marty brodeur had his bicep detached from his arm.. that's what it took to put him out. sidney crosby played 2 months on a broken foot... brett hull won the stanley cup with a broken wrist. stubbed your toe? does your mommy need to wash your panties too? _________________ Because it hurts so good.

I love watching when the players get sent flying into the cheerleaders, and then get up all angry but just yell a lot. If it were hockey, there'd be a line brawl. |

Well, actually you are right. Playing D in basketball is really hard. But it's really challenging for yourself too. You need discipline not to knock somebody off his feet. Instead you ought to get the ball out of his hands. Though I'm only 6'1" i have always been the best blocker on my team. Somehow i really got the heck of playing d. I also got quick hands for some steals. Defense is one of my key skills Though i tend to foul pointlessly when i am really pissed off... Anyways. so far i am waging war for basketball all alone on here. But it's really not as bad as it may sometimes look. I really like it and don't want to miss it though i am struggling right now. Kind of a personal crisis. Dunno... Maybe it's just because i fell in love with hockey and focus on playing net instead of ball... |

I like basketball. I like all sports. If a kid throws a rock against a tree in India, I can bet on it, and win.

| the rule in basketball is that you cant obstruct another player's path unless you have both feet planted and you aren't moving. you also won't get called if you go straight up in the air to block a shot. |

Unless you hit the player in any way shape or form with your hand. |

well, you are not allowed to hit a guy. that's right for sure but it's possible to stop a guy defensively either on you own or you try to charge him. anyways it's far more complicated than it looks |
