Hmm, I've missed two game updates.
Ok, so I don't really recall it all that well but 2 weeks ago we played against a team that was 4th or 5th in our division and won 7-5. Another poor showing by myself allowing goals from bad angles as well as a slapshot from the point. Both shots should've been handled easily but oh well. We won...just screwed up my GAA even worse.
This week...we played a team that came up about a month ago from Div C. They were 7-0-0 which was extremely daunting considering they played some teams that just ran my team all over the ice. I went into the game fully expecting a loss but hoping for a nice tight game with no huge leads taken by either side. Basically, something to talk about. First period I allowed 2 goals. One was a really nice deflection on a screen shot and the second was just under my glove and squeaked by me. My team put one in which I couldn't really see because we were all over their net. So 2-1 after 1...not terrible but I knew I had to step it up to keep up with these guys. 2nd period they put one by me on a weird rebound bounce. The puck hit my right toe and ended up to the left of me about 5 feet ahead and 10 feet away which made for an easy rebound since I had no idea where the puck went and didn't have the net covered at all. 3-1. My team came back and scored a nice one timer where one of my D crashed the net and absolutely put a rocket past the other tender on a one timer. We finished the second with 24 shots on me and 3-2. We went into the third and played 11 minutes of a 12 minute period with no goals on either end but plenty of chances. With 25 seconds left the other team iced it and I talked to the captain and took a seat on the bench. 6 skaters out, clock winding down my team scores with 9 seconds left tying it at 3 a piece. Even the fans at this point were cheering (all 5 of them) and we couldn't be happier. On my way back out to the net I fell trying to get over the boards and landed flat on my back losing my helmet somewhere on the bench. Not really pertinent but funny to me . So I go back out, with 9 seconds left the other team managed to get 2 more shots on goal and I stopped both allowing the second one to go out to kill time off the clock.
Overtime...there isn't one. We went straight to a shootout and my team opted to shoot second. First guy puts the puck just inches past my outsprawled pad and trapper and creams one past me on a great fake. Ok, not a big deal...then our guy misses his shot because he tried to deke with too much snow in front of the crease and lost it. Second shot absolutely rips past me tipping off my glove, smoking the post and going wide. Thank god, a save...kinda. Our 2nd shooter pulled a nice fake and put it high stick side. Their third shooter deked but I stayed up just a 1/2 second longer then normal and got my arm in close enough to squeeze the puck not allowing the goal. Our final shooter did the same thing as the second shooter and we ended up winning the game against the undefeated team 4-3.
All in all it was quite possibly the most exciting game I've ever played. I ended up stopping 25 of 28 in regulation and 2-3 in the shootout to bring our team to 4-4 and bringing the other team to 7-0-1. It was quite satisfying. |

Nature of the game I suppose. A win is attributed to the team playing well while a loss is almost always blamed on the goalie.
It's not that I'm being hard on myself, it's just that I know I could've done better or just positioned myself a little bit more square and made an easy save. Been playing far too long now to have a crappy SV% still. Then again, the record keepers aren't exactly the smartest so I'm sure I'm better then my stats show...but a few 10 goal games were given to me and I never let in more then 8 |

Because I had to put my name on the score sheet after the game. I talked to the scorekeeper and he was talking to me about a couple of my fluke saves sayin that overall I did a great job with 2 lucky saves that kept us in the game including one that everyone except the linesman thought went in. Hell even I did.
Anyways he was telling me that 3 goals on 28 shots isn't bad at all and I was mentally trying to compare that to a NHL goalies night. So it sorta stuck with me. |

Another win last night. 6-4 over the number 2 team in our league. I stopped 24 of 28 shots in what proved to be a good game. 2 disallowed goals, one on each side...in the end our team had 0 PIM when the other team had closer to 10 PIM.
My team played very well but the first GA was a cough up by my D and a misplay by myself. Still can't be too mad with a win |

Another win making us 7-4 and second in our leagues division.
I let in 3 goals, which were either one timers or rebound shots in the first 5 minutes. Pretty soft. Then I went to play a puck and a skater closed on me faster then I expected. I froze and the player took the puck, skated past me and my D then put it in the empty net. Frustrating start to say the least, specially with only 7 minutes gone from the period.
I played a solid 27 minutes and didn't allow a single goal on probably 15 or so shots after that and my team managed to put 8 goals away in the same time frame.
Not as well as I'd like to have played against our leagues equivalent of The Canes, but oh well, it's a win. |
