Hey everyone, I just registered and decided to make my first post aswell. Anyways, I was just wondering if you guys have ever *literally* kicked the puck out of the air using your pads. For example, a shot is going for your pads and you just kick it. It bounces off and goes far but it sure is hella fun! I used this kind of technique last year. _________________ A Brick Wall. |

Well that's good to know. I'm a hybrid-goalie so it makes sense. Thanks. _________________ A Brick Wall. |

I'm not a hybrid, but I've used this before. I generally use it when I want to move the puck quickly out of the zone. My pads have a hard face and are made more for directing rebound and not for smothering them. When I kick the puck with them it literally rockets off them and when directed the right way can clear the zone in a split second.
The best time I've ever used it was when I was laying on my back in the crease due to a series of events which included getting run into by one of my fantastic defensemen. Anyway, a guy grabbed the puck right at the front of the crease and did a quick wrist shot. The only thing I could do was kick up with my pad. Luckily I actually kicked the puck and sent it flying. Yeah, it was lucky, but it worked. _________________

I usually just do this in the pregame warmup on a weak little shot, just to look like a douchebag _________________

I find voluntary kicking the puck is useful when the other team's forwards are rushing for the rebound on your sides. When well aimed, the puck bounces pass them, creating an easy breakout for your team, since the 3 forwards of the other team are beaten.
Althought, this must be used VOLUNTARILY and you must aim for your kick, or else , the other team will pick the rebound up.
(Yep, UberGoalie's comeback) _________________

i am 42 and played goal a long time...
kick saves are made by basically by pushing off left while rotating the right heel on outer edge...i rotate my right foot in a arc or radius till my split is complete... i modeled my play after fuhr and my own stuff....
remember angles are the most important aspect of being a goalie...of course speed is too... but IMO i am an angle man....
when i played hard core i played in 3-4 leagues in 2 cities playing forward or center as well..... skating skills and angles are SO SO IMPORTANT... |
