Hi there,
I'm a completely new goalie (just started playing in April) and I've been having some trouble with the goalie stick. When I hold it for awhile my hand goes numb, or I guess more accurately my fingers. Sometimes when the puck leaves my zone I can set it down to get a drink or whatever, and it gets some feeling back, but then once I hold it again, all feeling disappears again. Last night it was so bad when the puck was in my zone for a pretty long while, that the only way I knew I was still holding the stick was because I saw it visually. I could have dropped it and not known the difference. That can get pretty painful.
Has anybody else experienced this before?? I loosened the strap that goes over the wrist on the blocker, but that made no difference. I'm wondering if I should just switch here at the beginning and learn how to hold the stick in my left hand and catch with the right. Because once I tried holding the stick in my left hand and it didn't go numb. But I never tried it for a whole game or anything. Also, I don't hold the stick especially tightly. I mean I hold it strong enough that it doesn't get knocked out of my hand, but I don't have a death grip on it or anything. Any advice would be awesome!!
It's nice to meet you all! |
