how do u personally handle teammates who critcize u bout ur playing? im a freshmen on a JV team 3rd string goalie but will possibly start next year. ive only been playing for around 8 months and admit im not amazing or at the level at the other 2 sophmore goalies. anyway there is an 8th grader next year coming in who is my contender for the starting position. my teamates rag on me like crazy about this saying how much i suck and how im probably gonna lose my job next year. got any ideas? advice?

thats too bad that they put you down like that. they should know that its only going to hinder your performance. luckily i dont have that problem because i have never really been the reason for a loss, because even when i let in like 6 goals my team never puts one in the net them selves, so really that cant be put on me. anyways i would just use what ever they say as fuel. just work off of their words. work harder. when your lifting weights and your on that last set and you dont think you can go any more, just think about that other goalie. just think about this, somewhere someone is practicing, and when he meets you out on that ice one on one, he is going to beat you, unless that someone practicing is you.so everyday your out there work your weak side, skate harder, and rise above thier comments. you have to beleive that you are better, because its you against the world. no one is going to do this for you its your choice, now or never.

i should be a coach. its 6:30 in the morning, im at work and i just got my self all riled up lol

When I played High School we went through a slump at one point and a lot of guys started telling me how to play. One day during practice our coach had the team captain and I trade gear/positions. They realized real quick that playing goal is not at all easy and stopped telling me how to play.

There's like an unspoken etiquette rule in hockey with the goalies around here. After a bad game, everyone will be nice and tell me I did well. But then about 2 weeks later when it's gone and doesn't matter then I start getting tooled on for it. But my teammates are pretty supportive, I talk to them a lot on the ice.

I just suggest you don't listen to them. What they say doesn't change your level of play, they're just thoughts.

All this advice was great, and I've got the same mindset. They're probably just trying to get something outta you, so just shake off their comments and say "We'll see.".. and like rj said, go out and work twice as hard so their comments come back and hit them in the face.

Or, just play a really bad game on purpose and say "that's because you guys told me I suck and now I have no confidence" Wink
