I just noticed this - it's funny because they're never around to help defend the female side in any argument Thanks a lot |

I started at 20. Played as a forward all my life, then borrowed a friend's gear just to try it. Instantly hooked, spent a ton of money on MORE gear and I try to play weekly. You'll know right away if you're meant for it and if you like it. Don't let the frustrating days push you out of the crease though! _________________ -Q

| To be honest, the frustrating days make me want to play that much more the next day. That's how you know when you truly love the sport/position when you have an off day and it makes you want to be that much better...maybe it's just stupid. Either way, you can start at any age, it's how much effort you put into it that matters. |

Started playing at 28, with very little hockey experience in high school. I've been taking part in various sports throughout my life, so that made it somewhat easier to adjust. _________________ Efe

| Wow I feel special, I've played goalie almost since I started playing hockey. But on a more related note, one of the guys I play drop-in with just recently started playing goalie and i don't know but I would put him around 40 at least, so its never to late and he's improved a lot, even since I've started going since the I got back from school. It's just about how comitted you are to it. I don't mean playing every day, if you just want to play with your friends and have fun, then do it, and even through that you'll get better and enjoy it. |

| I've played defense as long as I can remember but always wanted to be a goalie. I started playing net 4 years ago at 30 and have progressed into a pretty good keeper (good enough for my aged leagues). I love being a goalie and will be until I quit playing. i do play out oncde in a while still but not much. |

Don't worry about it, I'm starting for the first time goaltending AND ice skating at the age of 24. My goals? The NHL, of course
I may be retarded, but I think us goalies take a little bit of crazy just to be there, right? Its all about practice. Think about it, if somebody starts at the age of 10, and practices one hour per day, and you start at 21, and practice four hours per day, in a few years, you'll be better than them, or at least more practiced.
I say kick some butt, and don't bother taking names, just take the goals away from 'em! _________________ Think YOUR goaltending is bad? Mine is so bad, I made a blog about it. I should rename it 'inspirational blog for anybody ELSE between the posts...'

Well obviously at 28 I'd love to believe that. Unfortunately here are some reasons why that reasoning isn't the best.
1. difficulty in teaching an old dog new tricks
2. flexibility is acquired, best when started young
3. we're not exactly getting younger
4. I assume kids that start at 10 and are still playing competitively have gone through the natural selection filter (i.e. not every kid that starts goalkeeper keeps playing for years and years, the less successful might leave the sport or the position) quite a bit
