In an effort to bring the GOALIE in goalieforum back to life, here's one question I've always had:
How do you guys prefer your skates? on the duller side, or the sharper side?
and when you go for sharpening, what do you ask for, in terms of numbers or whatever? I always just say "goalie skate" and they ask me to be more specific, but I never know and just feel stupid _________________

Not that this hasn't been discussed before a few times... ..
but, I just got mine done 2 days ago, at 1". I'll likely go smaller next time... and keep going till i find the perfect blade... but as I've heard, start high, then get sharper... blades will last longer.
plus i like having a bit of a loose sideways grip anyways. I'm on the old and crippled side to be bflying all the time... the duller blade helps the stand up mobility part of my game _________________ random spelling mistakes added on purpose to annoy those that are annoyed by it. |

I knew it had been brought up before, but couldn't find it off the main page and didn't want to search.
Anybody else have any suggestions/comments? _________________

1/2" or 3/8" depending on the hardness of the ice _________________

when I bought my skates, they didnt ask me how I wanted them, they just sharpened them and said "here you go". they may have made it too thin, they tend to slip sometimes when in the crouch. _________________

1/2 inch. Just enough, but not too much, imo. Makes it easy to grip when sliding in the butterfly and getting up. Occasionally a blade will catch when I'm standing; going to try a 5/8 next time to see if it helps. _________________

I just do 5/8. If I want them duller I just ask for the lowest one he can do, snd I don't know the other measurements on that. But 5/8 is like the middle. _________________

ive had 1" 5/8 1/2 or 4/8
i agree try diff ones till you like it
i did 3/8 and first step on the ice was like i never skated before and then fell by the bench trying to do something
but i like 1 its so dull but hard to slide in butterfly almost impossible esp when you are learning _________________

So 1" is the dullest, and anything lower is getting steadily sharper? _________________

that's what everyone says but the higher i go the sharper my skates get sharper....people've explained it to me a hundred times and it all makes sense but when I get mine sharpened at 3/4 which (which is wut i normally do) it's sharper than 5/8(wut i used to do)... _________________ Pads-Simmons 993
