| you have to lift the leg unless the angle change is enough just to shuffle. this is where your stick position is very important. it needs to cover the gap, and deflect the low shots to the chest when moving. |

well from what i gather you're worried about lifting the leg off the ice when trying to overdrive slide to another angle right? well if you want do that, you have to lift the leg to make the move. so your stick has to cover the additional hole created.
if you're going from a VH to a butterfly slide, if the angle change is small enough you can drop that vertical leg, and shuffle over in your butterfly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIhMDtj6RxM 1:01-1:03.. there is a butterfly shuffle. |

| I've pretty much abandoned the VH stance. I never really got it to work effectively for me, and I always felt like I was leaving way too much open net on the H side, as well as a little too much space over the shoulder on the V side. |

| Personally I think the best way to fix a stance issue or movement problem is to simply watch the pros. Sure they all have varied styles but see how they handle situations and what works and doesn't work for them. There's a reason they're in the NHL. |

It's only used for very slim angle shots. There should be no net seen from the proper shooting angle from the H side. If you think there is open net, then you're using it at the wrong time. The glove should be on top of the pad covering the top of the net on the V side. But if you are small and have little pads, there will be room left. |

What works for them doesn't always work for you. You also have to think about the sheer amount of different styles in the NHL. Which one fits you best? |

Well, that would esplain it. I'm actually quite tall, but wasn't putting my glove on top of the V-side pad - it was going out in front.
But I still don't know if it's something I want to use. If it's only for very slim-angle shots, I think I'd prefer to stand up and let my 38" pads do the work. |

I wouldn't stand up for the shots because there's a high chance of the puck going in along the ice. And if you butterfly at that angle, you're opening up more holes than you'd be giving up in the VH.
That being said, I have the same problem when sliding off from the blocker side post. I've let in a few pucks in practice where shooters and just sliding it in for that half second I've got the 5-hole exposed.
Now they're all yelling at me to keep my legs closed... |

I've found that pulling the stick back to the tips of the toes works for me. |

Don't use it then, but there's a reason a lot of goalies use it. |

I'm almost positive that was the point I was trying to make Itech. Thanks for simultaneously reiterating that and trying to make me look like an asshole.

I realized that after I posted it, I was just too lazy to edit it. |
