These last couple months I've been having a not so fun time playing at drop in. Almost every time without fail I'd be hit in the face cage. I hardly ever get hit in the chest, so why I get hit constantly in the cage is mind-boggling.
Today, the guy who hit me told me that I should hold my glove a lot higher. He said to hold it closer to my head so that I can wave my glove in front of my face to stop the shot. That seems pretty dumb to me. Sure, I'd love to stop a shot from hitting me in the head, but waving my glove in front of my face so that I can't see anything doesn't seem smart to me. Plus, that goes against the general rule of keeping the glove around the same height as your blocker.
I'd love to hear what you guys think about this and maybe offer suggestions about what I should do differently. |

| Don't listen to whoever told you that. Don't listen to anyone who hasn't played the position long enough to know what they are talking about. If you have a good mask then don't be afraid to take the shot. I'd rather make a save with my face than have a puck in the net. The only thing I can be thinking of would be if you are short and if you play back in your crease, your head might be covering the middle of the net. Try coming out to the shooter more and you might notice that you take more shots to the shoulders/chest than the head. But shoulder shots hurt a lot more than headshots in my opinion.. |
