Hello there,
1) I'd like to say hello! as I am new here to the Goalie Forum.
Secondly, I've been practicing for about 2 months going to the local stick and shoots in the area but I have a slight issue. Even though I've been conditioning myself for the past 4 months I can only block about 10 shots before my calf muscles are burning to the point I can't control my legs. I've had no formal training other than some videos online. What could I be doing wrong?
I've noticed that I experience the same pain when skating around with just my leg pads on when I tie my skates to tight. I've already tried to do a stick and shoot with my skates a little loose and still experience the pain.
The Workouts I do are mainly consisted of a video I found online that goes from a squat to standing on my toes with weights.
Thanks for the time guys. _________________ do or do not, there is no try. |

Hello,
Im new and have about the same amount of experience.
I have this problem as well. I talked to another goalie at pickup the other day and he just laughed and said next it will be your groin. He said its just leg muscles your not used to straining in that way.
Im usually not up and down enough in a row for this to effect me during pickup games. However when I got stick and pucks and everyone just takes shot after shot on you there is only so much anyone can do. Dont feel bad at these, sit down if you need to.
Hopefully this helps or someone else can share their wisdom. |

| How old are you? Since you've only been playing for 2 months, you are going to get sore in a lot of places because you are using muscles that you didn't use regularly before. Practice a lot and use those muscles more and more and you will notice your stamina will increase over time. STRETCH as much as you can-on and off the ice. I've been having back problems the past couple of months and my sister who is a physical therapist explained to me that the back muscles that are sore are the ones you use when you are in that ready position waiting for a shot. Take care of yourself and you'll be fine |
