I'm hoping to get some advice and from what better place than a site where guys and girls like me can relate. Nobody understands goalies better than goalies.
So here I am. I'm a full right goaltender who fashioned himself after Grant Fuhr. I used to make a hell of a lot of acrobatic glove saves and a lot of kick saves. After a long hiatus from the game suddenly I became a tender who really leaned towards playing butterfly. Basically, my game evolved. This has continued to current. I am having a great year this year at 38 but suddenly this might be railroaded with several tourney's coming up. I say railroaded because I have suffered some injuries this year all groin related but I messed up my hip flexor last night. Basically, I dropped to butterfly on a 2 on 1 and my hip jammed and felt like it froze. I've always said not to adopt one style of play to the young kids I have coached the last two seasons. But here I am looking for advice..
How do I reset my mind and do away with some of the butterfly if not all of it? Like I say I use to make kick saves, glove saves and pad stacks like you wouldn't believe. I still have a decent poke check that I use a lot. I've continued to play after multiple heart attacks and severe diabetes. I'm not prepared to stop playing because of this. Any recommendations? Do i watch clips of Fuhr, Cujo, and Brodeur (there is some debate as to how he plays)?
I want a chance to eliminate potential groin/hip injuries.
Please help.

Practice as much as you can. Try and grab any ice time you can get to just practice the new style of play. The more you practice the style, movements, the easier it will come in gaem situations. _________________

as you remember kick saves take practice and repetitions to nail down.
I wouldnt give up on the bfly either, have you had anyone watch you and give you advice, have you take footage of yourself to analyze? _________________

Hey Guys;
Thanks for the help.
I am going to be playing a second ice time starting Friday as long as I get through tonight without either further injury or as long as it feels good come tomorrow morning. There is shinny at a local arena here as well on Thursdays.
I never used to think about kick saves or anything as they just came real naturally. I used to really go with the flow. I still read and react in the butterfly but I do have a tendency of worying about technique. I don't why I worry about it... not on the ice so much but afterwards.
Maybe a hybrid style will be the right fix. I tried to watch Marty the other night to see how he handled down low and wrap arounds but I never did pick up much. Nabokov also seems to play a hybrid style a lot. The one thing that I did notice about Brodeur going back the other night was that he only dropped to his knees in the butterfly on outside shots that were mid-section.
I haven't taken any footage so doing that might also help as well.
Thanks for the help. We'll see how it goes tonight.

I am going in for knee surgery here and I am playing the night before I go in. My season has been very bad since I got injured, and as it turns out It was not a new injury but an ongoing one that I made worse and a problem I can do nothing about, but I am getting fixed what can be fixed. You should go in and get looked at. _________________
