Wow... I mean that's really scary. So if you are minding net for several times a week it would be better to get your hip checked from time to time. Until now I always thought that the most stressed part of your body in the butterfly would be the knee.... Maybe, given that knowledge, pad companies will do some research to find maybe some padding methods that would diminish stress on your hip. Maybe |

| My question is this, it says 10-20% of the population. So how do we know if we're the 20% or the 80%? Just wait until we need our hips repaired? |

Xrays would tell you if the top of your femur is spherical or oblong. Or you could take the standard route of waiting till you're in excrutiating pain. _________________ Because it hurts so good.

| I don't think I'd want to take the chance, especially since I already had hip surgery once... |

Hay Ya,
I read that article, but I think that itīs not only the butterfly that injured the hips.
Itīs the off ice training that did not support the right muscles and sinews for the moves.
I come from martial art and we make specific training for our moves that support me now being a goalie.
Have you ever seen a Asian with bad movinīhips ?!
Here some examples on video.
Regards
Dirk

thanks for the post. my legs r not even so chances r, im one of those 20% with femur structural problems
let me know if you guys find any info on how to "safely" do butterfly if thats possible.
im wondering if it would make a difference if i keep my knees bent and lower my legs rather than "dropping" to butterfly. ...then again, that might just destroy all the cartilage in my knees haha |

Take your pick... which do you value more? knees or hips?
tough choice. |

I honestly have no clue. I was 13 at the time, and it had just started giving me a lot of issues. Really noticeable when my team played in a tournament game, and we lost horribly and 100% because of me. I think I let in 4 or 5 goals that were right at the blue line, and easy shots too.
Basically, they told me my femur was slowly rotating out of the hip socket, so they had to screw it back into place, literally. I've lost a lot of mobility with that leg which sucks big time.
I'll ask my mom though, she's a nurse and would probably remember more details. |
