Well, you can practice all you want... but I'd say you'll only really get the feel for it by playing. Try to find a pickup league or something similar, and explain that it's your first year and you're not very good... hopefully they'll be understanding. _________________

ok i have an update on this, my dad emailed the hockey association here saying:
My son Brandon turns 16 on Aug. 6. He has an interest in goalie, but has not played hockey for years. He did play when he was younger, but lost interest. Can he join even though he is at a beginner level, and would he need to purchase pads, etc. if he were to play? He purchcased skates and a stick and has done some recreational skating. I would hate to make a big investment in equiptment if he didn't stick with it. Also, do they have an camps or entry level trainin sessions available to develop skills and see where he is at, and if he even has a chance to play?
then the guy sent this back today:
Scott, we really don't have any intro to hockey at this level, there are camps around the cities but most of these kids are trying to make the next level, which in this age group would be high school. Call me if you want to discuss this further, we don't start skating until the end of October. He could come and try but you should know that the play at this age can get intense. Does he play other sports? We usually try and let everyone play but we also don't want to see anyone get hurt. Why don't you give me a call.
were callin later today but idk, not looking so good for me playing this year _________________
