skating is way different with 22 extra inches of leg width. at least go get yourself some roller hockey B.S. pads to get a feel for what it'll be like.

ok so just an update on this.

i had my dad read some of these posts and he still thinks i should perfect my skating first. As far as skating goes i can skate decent i cant hockey stop though. Can do all the easy basic stuff like skating backwards and crossing over etc... I did buy a stick at play it again sports yesterday but all i have is that and skates.

Skating is very important, I skated out as a forward before making the full-time switch to goalie. Is there maybe some advanced skating classes at your local rink? Even if you don't have your skating perfect before becoming a goalie, it'll make it a lot easier.

I think skating is overrated. You don't need it as much as everyone says.

basically, you need to be as comfortable on your skates as off them.

FS. your full of it. quick powerful and explosive movement requires that you be a strong skater.

you dont need to be a skater, like long distances skater, if so, i would suck more than i do now. its about quick and explosive moves, like R2MN said
